The Department of High-field THz driven Phenomena is looking for a PhD Student (f/m/d) Ultrafast terahertz spectroscopy on molecular dynamics in a liquid jet.

Working field:

  • Optical experiments on molecular dynamics in a liquid jet using laser- and accelerator-based pulsed light sources.
  • Set-up and optical characterization of a liquid jet using various optical techniques mainly based on femtosecond optical lasers.
  • Integrating the liquid jet into terahertz-based optical experiments both for THz time-domain spectroscopy and THz pump – optical probe experiments.
  • Experiments on THz-driven phenomena in various liquids particularly including water and aqueous solutions of biologically relevant samples.

Requirements:

  • Completed university studies (Master/Diploma) in the field of Physics, Physical chemistry, Optics, Biophysics or related field
  • Experience in nonlinear optics, femtosecond lasers, terahertz spectroscopy and ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopy
  • Basic experience with wet lab work is an advantage
  • Ability to work in a multicultural and interdisciplinary team
  • Coordinate projects between different institutes and research-centres
  • Willingness to travel for scientific exchange between project partners
  • Good and active communication skills as well as an independent way of working
  • Very good written and spoken English, German advantageous
  • Confident handling of software for scientific data acquisition and evaluation as well as Python
