Working field:

Research in the department addresses questions of early and mid-level visual perception (https://jov.arvojournals.org/article.aspx?articleid=2783478). We conduct psychophysical experiments in combination with computer-aided modeling of experimental data (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0042698924000944?via%3Dihub ). Independent research is just as much a part of the candidate's duties as the supervision of junior researchers (BA and MA students, student employees).

Candidates are expected to:

  • Carry out research work independently
  • Present research findings at national and international conferences
  • Publish research results in academic journals
  • Take on independent teaching tasks in the courses offered by the department
  • Participate in current research projects of the department

Requirements:

  • Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience or a closely related field
  • Proven knowledge in the field of computational modeling
  • Ability to teach in German and/or English; willingness to acquire the missing language skills.
  • Experience in the field of psychophysics of perception, measurement of subjective aspects of perception, epistemology of visual perception research, monitor calibration, psychometric measurement techniques,...
  • Experience with visualization techniques and statistical data analysis
  • Familiarity with numerical simulations (e.g. in Python, Octave, Matlab or similar)

Desirable:

  • Ability to work in a team
  • High motivation and independence
  • Experience in one or more of the following topics is highly advantageous:
    o Experience in the field of psychophysics of perception, measurement of subjective aspects of perception, epistemology of visual perception research, monitor calibration, psychometric measurement techniques,...
    o Experience with visualization techniques and statistical data analysis
    o Familiarity with numerical simulations (e.g. in Python, Octave, Matlab or similar)
