Leibniz-Zentrum für Agrarlandschaftsforschung e.V. - HR

The mission of the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) as a nationally and internationally active research institute is to deliver solutions for an ecologically, economically and socially sustainable agriculture – together with society. ZALF is a member of the Leibniz Association and is located in Müncheberg (approx. 35 minutes by regional train from Berlin-Lichtenberg). It also maintains a research station with further locations in Dedelow and Paulinenaue.

The University of Bonn and the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) e.V. invite applications for

2 Research Associates or PhD students (f/m/d)
Soil Microbiology and Biogeochemistry of the Wetland Methane Cycle

(65% for 36 months)

Working field:

Each institution will employ one coworker at the work places Bonn (Institute of Crop Science and Resource Conservation, INRES) or Müncheberg/Berlin (RA Landscape Functioning, Microbial Biogeochemistry, ZALF).
Both announced positions are part of the DFG project “Methane Dynamics of Kettle Holes in a Postglacial Agricultural Landscape – Microbial Ecology and Biogeochemistry (MeDKet)”. The aim of MeDKet is to gain deep insights into the soil and plant microbiome in kettle holes to explain net methane surface fluxes. These small but very abundant wetlands of the northern hemisphere play a not yet understood role for global methane emissions. Kettle holes are often impacted by agricultural land-use with unknown effects on methane emissions. Both coworkers will conduct complementary work including highly resolved CH4 and CO2 onsite measurements and laboratory experiments. The candidates will use molecular techniques such as 13C stable isotope probing, metagenomics, qPCR or metabarcoding to assess the dynamics and ecophysiology of methanotrophs and methanogens. It is encouraged that the two candidates assist each other in field and laboratory experiments.

How to apply:

Women are particularly encouraged to apply. Applications from severely disabled persons with equal qualifications are favored. The University of Bonn and ZALF are both committed to diversity and equal opportunity. Both are certified as family-friendly institutions. Both aim to increase the proportion of women in areas in which women are under-represented and to promote particularly their careers. Both therefore urge women with relevant qualifications to apply.

Please send your application preferably by e-mail (one PDF file, max. 5 MB; packed PDF documents, archive files like zip, rar etc. Word documents cannot be processed and therefore cannot be considered!) with the usual documents, in particular CV, proof of qualification and certificates, stating the reference number 56-2021 until September 30, 2021 to: Bewerbungen@zalf.de.
