Technische Universität Berlin - Faculty III - Process Sciences - Institute of Energy Engineering offers a position of a
University Professor - salary grade W3
for the chair of "Heat transfer and heat conversion".
The institute of Energy Engineering in the Faculty III - Process Sciences of Technische Universität Berlin intends to reinforce its focus in teaching and research on thermal energies, and by this strives for contributing to the transition of the energy system especially in heat and cold supply systems. From this idea originate the foreseen topics of the chair:
Classes should be given in Heat and Mass Transfer, Energy Conversion, especially Refrigeration and A/C in several engineering programs. Classes have to be taught in both German and English language.
Expected future research is both on the fundamentals of heat and mass transfer and on applications, especially heat driven cooling processes. Possible topics are:
Temperature- and composition field as well as flow patterns and velocity fields in several geometries (falling film, pool, microchannels…)
Not in kind structures of heat transfer (micro hx with laminar flow on the one hand, mechanisms to enhance turbulence on the other hand); filament or sponge structures, etc.
Enhancement of heat and mass transfer by additives
Pressure drop as a typical downside of enhanced heat transfer
Optimisation of complete heat exchangers
Development of apparatuses, esp. for ab-, ad-, desorption, with new working substances or exchanger structures
Development and optimization cooling processes (preferably heat driven), processes for sector coupling, for thermal energy storage or heat recovery, and heat exchangers for those processes
fulfill the requirements for appointment at the professorial level in compliance with § 100 BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act), including a completed academic education, qualified achievements in research (PhD), post-doctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) or equivalent qualification (e.g. documented by the quality of scientific papers beyond promotion) and pedagogical-didactic qualifications, to be given proof of by a teaching portfolio (see homepage direct access 144242)
have subject-specific teaching experience
show the ability to lead a research group,
have an internationally excelling research profile within at least one of said topics, documented by high-level publications
Preferably, candidates have:
experience in the acquisition and administration of third party-funded projects
international experience and experience in working with interdisciplinary teams
experience in promotion of junior and female scientists as well as gender mainstreaming; consideration of these issues is expected
For applicants who do not speak German, a commitment to swiftly learn the German language is expected.
