IFW Dres­den e.V. - Solid State and Mater­i­als Research

The Leib­niz Insti­tute for Solid State and Mater­i­als Research Dresden (IFW Dresden) is a non-uni­versity research insti­tute and a mem­ber of the Leib­niz Asso­ci­ation. The IFW employs approx­im­ately 600 people and one focus is on the train­ing of young sci­ent­ists (m/f/d) besides enhan­cing fun­da­mental and applied research devel­op­ment. At the highest inter­na­tional level, the IFW oper­ates mod­ern mater­i­als sci­ence on a sci­entific basis and makes the obtained res­ults use­ful for the eco­nomy. The com­plex and inter­dis­cip­lin­ary research work is car­ried out within the IFW by five sci­entific insti­tutes, which are sup­por­ted by a highly developed tech­nical infra­struc­ture. Work­ing field:

The Insti­tute for Com­plex Mater­i­als (IKM) - of the Leib­niz Insti­tute for Solid State and Mater­i­als Research - IFW Dresden - is look­ing for a highly motiv­ated early stage researcher (m/f/d) to join the research group of "Chem­istry of Func­tional Mater­i­als" as PhD stu­dent/doc­toral stu­dent (m/f/d) from 01.10.2021.

Your main tasks:

Within the IFW excel­lence pro­ject „lmprin­ted mag­netic tex­tures" your research task will com­prise the ana­lysis of elec­tro­chem­ical pro­cesses (elec­trode­pos­ition, elec­tro­dissol­u­tion) in tailored mag­netic fields and the char­ac­ter­iz­a­tion of res­ult­ing metal­lic micro- and nano­struc­tures. In col­lab­or­a­tion with phys­i­cists, chem­ists and mater­i­als sci­ent­ists of the team you will estab­lish a fun­da­mental under­stand­ing of the related magne-to-elec­tro­chem­ical mech­an­isms and will develop con­cepts for exploit­ing the expec­ted unique struc­tures for advanced applic­a­tions, e.g. bio­sensing.

Require­ments:

All can­did­ates (m/f/d), with a strong back­ground and suc­cess­ful Dip­loma or Mas­ter in the area of phys­ical chem­istry, phys­ics or mater­i­als sci­ence (metals) are encour­aged to apply. Spe­cific know­ledge in elec­tro-chem­istry and elec­tro­chem­ical meth­ods, mag­net­isms and mag­netic mater­i­als and in related mater­i­als char­ac­ter­iz­a­tion meth­ods is desired. High read­i­ness for col­lab­or­a­tion in an inter­dis­cip­lin­ary and inter­na­tional team is expec­ted.

What we of­fer:

The salary will be based upon the TV-L rules (TV-L E13, 50 %). The con­tract will be lim­ited to 1 year with the pos­sib­il­ity of exten­sion for two more years.
