(full-time) to begin work on September 1, 2021 for the International Max Planck Research School “Knowledge and Its Resources: Historical Reciprocities” (IMPRS-KIR).
The IMPRS-KIR is a graduate school for the history of science, technology, and medicine, co-organized by the four institutions named above in collaboration with international partner universities. The objective of the IMPRS is to train international doctoral students in the analysis of knowledge and resources – specifically, the reciprocal historical influences between the two.
The IMPRS is based on long-standing, close research relationships within the Berlin Center for the History of Knowledge. It will begin its work in September 2022. During the one-year preparation phase, the Coordinator will help to set up the IMPRS in terms of structures and human resources. The post is located at the MPIWG. The Coordinator’s work will be carried out in close liaison with the university partners; further collaborations are planned.
You will work at the interface of scholarship and administration. Your highly varied tasks will include supporting the IMPRS managing board, carrying out day-to-day coordination and organization of the IMPRS as regards the students’ research and administration needs, and integrating the IMPRS with existing and planned programs and activities of the MPIWG and the university partners.
Among your specific tasks will be:
Supporting the process of building the IMPRS’s structures
Supporting the Principal Teaching Faculty
Supervising the recruitment process
Supporting events organization
Helping the graduate students to arrange their stay in Berlin and at the international partner institutions
Supervising the international guest program
Supervising the IMPRS website and publicity
Supervising communication and liaison processes with the administrations of the MPIWG and partners.
You must have a doctorate in a humanities discipline with a historical orientation. Familiarity with current debates in the history of knowledge and the history of science is desirable. You must have experience of working in academic management and project management (including finances), knowledge of the German and international academic landscape, outstanding language skills in German and English, and experience in working with students from different backgrounds. In addition, you should have excellent communication and team skills, flexibility, resilience, a well- structured way of working, and experience or interest in working in an international setting.
What we offer:
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale TVöD, at level E13. The appointment is fixed term (two years).
