Yildirim Lab has extens­ive exper­i­ence in char­ac­ter­iz­ing epi­gen­etic and tran­scrip­tional dys­reg­u­la­tion in CNS dis­eases such as Hunt­ing­ton’s Dis­ease and stroke. More inform­a­tion about our sci­entific field of work can be found on our webpage at http://ferahyildirimlab.com/.

The Postdoc pos­i­tion we offer is part of a pro­ject in which we aim to invest­ig­ate the role of epi­gen­etic mech­an­isms, espe­cially DNA methyl­a­tion, and the gene expres­sion pro­grams that are involved in alco­hol addic­tion. The pro­ject involves per­form­ing gen­ome-wide DNA methyl­a­tion assays such as reduced rep­res­ent­a­tion bisul­fite sequen­cing (RRBS) and methyl­ated DNA immun­o­precip­it­a­tion fol­lowed by sequen­cing (MeDIP-Seq). Util­iz­ing these tech­no­lo­gies, we have pre­vi­ously repor­ted large changes in DNA methyl­a­tion in mod­els of Hunt­ing­ton’s dis­ease (Ng, C.W., Yildirim F. et al., PNAS, 2013). In the cur­rent pro­ject, these tech­niques will be applied to the brain samples, which are read­ily avail­able from a rat model of alco­hol addic­tion (Hadar, R., et al., Behav Brain Res, 2017).
