The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

Junior Pro­fes­sor­ship (W1) in Hap­tic Clouds

Tech­ni­sche Uni­ver­si­tät Dres­den as a Uni­ver­sity of Excel­lence is one of the lea­ding uni­ver­si­ties in Ger­many, and is ran­ked among the 100 most inno­va­tive uni­ver­si­ties world­wide. Its dis­tin­guis­hing fea­ture is a strong focus on rese­arch as well as its diver­si­fied offer of 129 cour­ses of study in Engi­nee­ring Sci­en­ces, Natu­ral Sci­en­ces, Huma­nities & Social Sci­en­ces and Medi­cine. It pur­sues a long-term over­all deve­lop­ment pro­gramme aimed at making TU Dres­den an inter­na­tio­nal top uni­ver­sity.

At the Faculty of Com­pu­ter Sci­ence, the Insti­tute of Sys­tems Archi­tec­ture, for the Clus­ter of Excel­lence “Centre for Tac­tile Inter­net with Human-in-the-Loop” (CeTI), invi­tes app­li­ca­ti­ons for a
Junior Pro­fes­sor­ship (W1) in Hap­tic Clouds
to be fil­led at the ear­liest pos­si­ble date. The junior pro­fes­sor will be appoin­ted initi­ally for four years. Fol­lo­wing a posi­tive inte­rim eva­lua­tion, the con­tract will be exten­ded to a total of six years.

Work­ing field:

You will pro­cess basic rese­arch objec­tives in the area of the so-cal­led “Hap­tic Clouds”, in par­ti­cu­lar infra­st­ruc­tures such as Edge Clouds, Fog Com­pu­ting or Cloud Com­pu­ting with high-per­for­mance requi­re­ments enab­ling a hap­tic feed­back in human-machine and human-robo­tic inter­faces. Pro­vi­sion and app­li­ca­tion of Hap­tic Clouds has two aspects. On the one hand, the algo­rithms run­ning on a hap­tic cloud have to be adap­ted to inho­mo­ge­ne­ous and dis­tri­bu­ted resour­ces. Per­for­mance, low latency, and other resource requi­re­ments of hap­tic feed­back have to be met. On the other hand, the infra­st­ruc­tures of a hap­tic cloud have to be mana­ged in an auto­ma­ted way inclu­ding the allo­ca­tion of sha­red resour­ces and com­mu­ni­ca­tion paths.

We place spe­cial empha­sis on your active par­ti­ci­pa­tion in the Excel­lence Clus­ter, in par­ti­cu­lar in the areas “Inter­net-of-Skills” and the under­ly­ing infra­st­ruc­tures of Hap­tic Clouds. We expect you to col­la­bo­rate clo­sely with the other insti­tu­tes at the Faculty of Com­pu­ter Sci­ence, the Insti­tute of Com­mu­ni­ca­tion Tech­no­logy at the Faculty of Elec­tri­cal and Com­pu­ter Engi­nee­ring, the Chair of Indus­trial Design Engi­nee­ring at the Faculty of Mecha­ni­cal Sci­ence and Engi­nee­ring as well as the pro­fes­sor­ships of the Faculty of Psy­cho­logy in CeTI. A col­la­bo­ra­tion with the Com­pe­tence Cen­ter ScaDS.AI Dres­den/Leip­zig is pos­si­ble You will be requi­red to per­form tea­ching tasks, in par­ti­cu­lar in the area of reli­able dis­tri­bu­ted sys­tems. Your duties include active par­ti­ci­pa­tion in aca­de­mic self-admi­nis­tra­tion.


To this end, soft­ware engi­nee­ring expe­ri­ence, inter­na­tio­nal publi­ca­ti­ons as well as expe­ri­ence in the inde­pen­dent acqui­si­tion and manage­ment of rese­arch pro­jects in the above-men­tio­ned rese­arch fields are requi­red. We are par­ti­cu­larly see­king per­sons who are pas­sio­nate about working with gra­duate stu­dents and trai­ning the next genera­tion of rese­ar­chers.
