Working field:

The Berlin Mathematics Research Center MATH+ sets out to advance mathematics itself and its interdisciplinary power with the aim of achieving progress on grand challenges in a wide variety of application fields.

Job description:

The position is part of the research project EF4-9 "Multilevel methods for agent-based epidemic policy design" in MATH+. The project shall develop concepts and methods for mathematical optimization of complex agent-based models in support of epidemic policy design.
The successful candidate will contribute to this challenging research topic by establishing derivative concepts for agent-based models, enabling efficient gradient based optimization, or by developing heterogeneous multilevel optimization methods employing model hierarchies from ordinary differential equations up to stochastic agent-based models.

  • Additional knowledge from the following fields is advantageous: stochastics, epidemic modelling, computer simulations, data analysis (techniques from machine-learning that permit to handle complex data-sets)
• Advanced programming skills in scientific computing (e.g. Matlab, Python)
  • Excellent written and spoken English
