Job description:

Streptococcus canis is an important opportunistic pathogen in dogs. Its incidence has increased dramatically in the last years, but knowledge about how it causes disease is still lacking. Using genome-based state-of-the-art techniques, such as Whole-genome Sequencing (WGS) and Transposon Directed Insertion-site Sequencing (TraDIS), the aim of this project is not only to determine the genomic inventory of the species S.canis, but also to identify genes that are important for colonization and disease manifestation in dogs. The successful candidate will be part of a larger research group, which is mainly focused on host-pathogen interactions of zoonotic streptococci.
