2 Rese­arch Asso­cia­tes / PhD stu­dents

The posi­ti­ons are avail­able star­ting as soon as poss­bile, ent­ail 50% of the full­time wee­kly hours and are fixed-term for 3 years, max. until 31.12.2022. The period of employ­ment is gover­ned by the Fixed Term Rese­arch Con­tracts Act (Wis­sen­schafts­zeit­ver­trags­ge­setz - WissZeitVG). The posi­ti­ons offer the chance to obtain fur­ther aca­de­mic qua­li­fi­ca­tion (e.g. PhD).
Short pro­ject descrip­tion: The pro­ject App­ly­ing che­mi­cal activity con­cept in che­mi­cal hazard assess­ment aims to re-design cur­rent tes­ting stra­te­gies to increase through­put and decrease sus­cep­ti­bi­lity to expe­ri­men­tal arte­facts by main­tai­ning con­stant sta­ble expo­sure and using exclu­si­vely taxo­no­mi­c­ally lower orga­nisms (water fleas, algae). Simul­ta­ne­ously the infor­ma­tion out­put is enhan­ced by using highly spe­ci­fic/sen­si­tive ana­ly­ti­cal tech­ni­ques (LC/MS, GC/MS) and employ­ing che­mi­cal activity con­cept to pro­vide not only indi­ca­tors of toxi­city/bioac­cu­mu­la­tion but also infor­ma­tion on modes of action, trans­for­ma­tion pro­ducts and (a)bio­tic par­ti­tio­ning.

Work­ing field:

Using pas­sive dosing to estab­lish and main­tain sta­ble expo­sure in test; per­forming acute/chro­nic Daph­nia magna and green algae test; extrac­ting hydro­pho­bic pol­lut­ants from water/ani­mal tis­sue; ana­ly­sis of data and inter­pre­ta­tion of results; super­vi­sion of M.Sc. and BA stu­dents; pre­sen­ta­tion of results at inter­na­tio­nal con­fe­ren­ces; pre­pa­ra­tion of publi­ca­ti­ons in inter­na­tio­nal high-ran­ked jour­nals.


uni­ver­sity degree (M.Sc.) in che­mi­stry, envi­ron­men­tal sci­ence or rela­ted disci­pli­nes; excel­lent track record; labo­ra­tory expe­ri­ence (know­ledge of LC/MS or GC/MS); high moti­va­tion and inte­rest in sci­en­ti­fic work; excel­lent com­mand of Eng­lish (Ger­man would be an advan­tage).
