in the field of "High Sens­it­iv­ity Mag­neto­metry".

PTB is the National Met­ro­logy Insti­tute of Ger­many with sci­entific and tech­nical ser­vice tasks and sup­ports soci­ety, industry, and sci­ence.
The aim of the new pro­fess­or­ship is to strengthen research in “Met­ro­logy in ultra-small mag­netic fields” at PTB in close col­lab­or­a­tion with TU Ber­lin.

Work­ing field:

Research in the field "High Sens­it­iv­ity Mag­neto­metry" by using quantum effects. Devel­op­ment and applic­a­tion of meas­ur­ing sys­tems for bio­medi­cine, mater­ial sci­ence as well as basic research.
Teach­ing respons­ib­il­it­ies with focus on courses within the respons­ib­il­ity of the Insti­tut für Optik und Ato­mare Physik.
In addi­tion to research and teach­ing, the can­did­ate will be respons­ible for the fol­low­ing tasks at PTB:
  • Man­aging a research work­ing group and super­vising staff,
  • Plan­ning of research goals,
  • Plan­ning of resources and del­eg­a­tion of task,
  • Cooper­at­ing with national and inter­na­tional part­ners in aca­demia, national met­ro­logy insti­tutes and industry,
  • Acquis­i­tion of third-party fund­ing and per­form­ing related pro­jects.
Being adjus­ted to the job, the can­did­ate is sup­posed to take over the role as head of the depart­ment „biosig­nals“ from the cur­rent pos­i­tion holder in 2020.


Can­did­ates must ful­fil the require­ments for appoint­ment at the pro­fessor level in com­pli­ance with § 100 Ber­lHG (Ber­lin Higher Edu­ca­tion Act), includ­ing a fin­ished aca­demic edu­ca­tion, qual­i­fied achieve­ments in research (PhD), post-doc­toral lec­ture qual­i­fic­a­tion (Habil­it­a­tion) or equi­val­ent qual­i­fic­a­tion (e.g. doc­u­mented by the qual­ity of sci­entific papers) and ped­ago­gical didactic qual­i­fic­a­tions, demon­strated by teach­ing exper­i­ence and visu­al­ized in a teach­ing port­fo­lio (for fur­ther inform­a­tion see TUB Web­site, quick access 144242).
Inter­na­tion­ally acknow­ledged excel­lent research on mag­neto­metry. Qual­i­fic­a­tion and interest in sci­entific col­lab­or­a­tion in national and inter­na­tional net­works, com­pet­ence and exper­i­ence in teach­ing in exper­i­mental phys­ics. Can­did­ates are expec­ted to have suc­cess­fully acquired and real­ized third party fun­ded pro­jects. Teach­ing require­ments should be met in Ger­man and Eng­lish. The will­ing­ness to learn Ger­man is expec­ted from Non-Ger­man speak­ing applic­ants.
