Technische Universität Berlin - Fakultät IV

Technische Universität Berlin - Faculty IV - Electrical Engineering and Computer Science – Institute of Telecommunication Systems - invites applications for a position of a

University Professor - salary grade W 3

in the field of “Internet Architecture and Management“.

Working field:

Research and teaching in the area of internet architectures and protocols with emphasis on at least one of the following fields:
  • Network Architectures: coexistence of information centric and classical architectures, innovative architectures for supporting information placement and processing placement under joint transmission, storage, and processing point of view, joint routing and resource allocation.
  • Software Defined Networks and Network Virtualisation: separation of control and user plane, further development of control protocols and interfaces (beyond open stack, and P4), correctness verification of control protocols, controller placement/ network function placement (optimization) and relocation (execution protocols), dynamic parametrization of co-located slices according to the offered traffic and available capacities.
  • Programmable Routers: optimization of the software architecture, performance modelling and evaluation, component load analysis
  • Internet Security and Resilience: security of softwarized networks, detection of security vulnerabilities (with special respect to control plane) security breaks and network component failures. Traffic network measurements for cyber security.
  • Traffic and QoS Monitoring: on-line traffic analysis and QoS monitoring, network measurements for bottleneck identification.
  • Protocols Supporting Verticals - e.g. improved content delivery, tactile internet, Internet of things. Harmonization of the verticals support in the core network with the support in the access networks (especially in Post 5G architectures).

Proven achievements in both theoretical and experimental research is required. Close cooperation with research groups in related fields such as Data Communications and Networking, Information Theory, Distributed Systems, Video Communication, Internet Measurement and Analysis, Service Centric Networking and others is expected.

The teaching obligation includes the basic lectures on computer networking and protocols, control within and between networked autonomous systems, the impact on services such as video streaming etc. as well the principles of networking protocols. Additional lectures should consider performance evaluations of internet architectures and the design of Internet algorithms. The courses will be part of the Bachelor and the Master degree programs offered by the Faculty IV - Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

Berlin offers a rich research environment in the field and related areas including several non-university research institutes, such that a wide range of research collaboration opportunities is possible.
