RWTH Aachen - Human-Computer Interaction Center

The Junior Research Group "Digitale Mündigkeit" is located at the Chair of "Communication Science" and the Human-Computer Interaction Center (HCIC) of the RWTH Aachen and is headed by Dr. Dipl.-Inform. André Calero Valdez.

The research focus of the junior research group is the interaction of humans and algorithms. One of the goals of the junior research group is to investigate how a suitable interaction between humans and algorithms should be designed. The influence of artificial intelligence, algorithms such as recommender systems and the influence of human factors will be investigated. The junior research group tries to understand phenomena by means of agent-based modeling, machine learning and information visualization.

The junior research group is integrated in the Human-Computer Interaction Center (HCIC) of RWTH Aachen University. We are a team of about 40 scientists and students and put emphasis on the fact that scientific work should be fun, interdisciplinary integrated and practically applicable.

Research Assistant/Associate

Work­ing field:

Your main task is to work on a dis­ser­ta­tion in com­pu­ter sci­ence.
For this, it is expec­ted that you par­ti­ci­pate in..
  • Deve­lop­ment of a soft­ware for the scra­ping of web data
  • Deve­lop­ment of an envi­ron­ment for simu­la­tion and visua­liza­t­ion of algo­rithms and users
  • Mode­ling of algo­rithms and users in agent-based simu­la­ti­ons
  • Wri­ting of sci­en­ti­fic publi­ca­ti­ons

Require­ments:

You have a uni­ver­sity degree (mas­ter or com­pa­ra­ble) in com­pu­ter sci­ence, data sci­ence or some­thing com­pa­ra­ble.
You have a quick grasp, are com­mit­ted to your work, and work auto­no­mously and crea­tively.

You have:
  • Expe­ri­ence in the deve­lop­ment of soft­ware pro­jects (e.g. Java, Python, Scala, Rust, or simi­lar)
  • Prior know­ledge of agent-based mode­ling and simu­la­ti­ons
  • Prior know­ledge in the field of machine learning
  • Prior know­ledge in the field of data and infor­ma­tion visua­liza­t­ion
  • Inte­rest in Net­work Theory (Social Net­work Ana­ly­sis)
  • Strong inte­rest in inter­di­sci­pli­nary col­la­bo­ra­tion

What we of­fer:

The posi­tion is until 31.12.2022 and is to be fil­led as soon as pos­si­ble. This is a full-time posi­tion. It is also avail­able as part-time employ­ment per request.

The suc­cess­ful can­di­date has the oppor­tu­nity to pur­sue a doc­to­ral degree.

The salary cor­re­sponds to level EG 13 TV-L.
