Technische Universität Berlin - Faculty II

Technische Universität Berlin, Faculty II - Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Institute of Theoretical Physics, invites applications for a

University Professor - salary grade W3

for the chair of "Theoretical Physics with a focus on Non-Equilibrium Dynamics of Correlated Quantum Matter".

Working field:

Applicants are expected to teach the field of Theoretical Physics in the entire breadth and depth. In research they should represent “Theoretical Physics with a focus on Non-Equilibrium Dynamics of Correlated Quantum Matter“.

Requirements:

Candidates must fulfill the requirements for appointment at the professor level in compliance with § 100 BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act) [information sheet available by request], including a completed academic education, qualified achievements in research (doctorate and additional academic achievements) and pedagogical-didactic qualifications, demonstrated by teaching experience and visualized in a teaching portfolio (for further information see TUB Website, quick access 144242).
We are looking for an outstanding and international leading scientist to strengthen and to further develop the profile of the Institutes of Physics in the field of Theoretical Physics. The focus of research is expected to be in the field of mesoscopic, correlated quantum systems in the field of condensed matter physics with relevance for transport and optics. Examples include the manipulation of collective quantum states and quantum gases, the non-equili-brium dynamics of electronic/photonic correlations, non-thermal phase transitions, strong-field phenomena and topological aspects of light-matter interaction. In particular, we expect methodological contributions to optimized numerical techniques in open many-body quantum systems.
The Institute of Theoretical Physics already hosts internationally recognized research topics in the fields of soft matter, biological physics, nonlinear dynamics and optics. The research of the successful candidate is expected to complement the already established topics and analytical/numerical methods. Also, wide experience in third-party funding and contributing to joint research activities of the Physical Institutes is anticipated. The willingness to learn German is expected from Non-German speaking applicants.

How to apply:

Technische Universität Berlin is determined to increase the proportion of women in research and
teaching and therefore strongly encourages qualified female researchers to apply. Qualified individuals with disabilities will be favored. The TU Berlin values the diversity of its members and is committed to the goals of equal opportunities. In the context of the strategic internationalization process, TU Berlin assumes the recruited academic teaching staff's ability to conduct classes in English.
Technische Universität Berlin is a certified family-friendly higher education institution, and our Dual Career Service offers assistance to you and your family when relocating to Berlin.

Please send your written application until 19 July 2018 indicating the reference number and including the appropriate documentation to Technische Universität Berlin – Der Präsident –, Dekan der Fakultät II, Prof. Dr. Emmrich, Sekr. BEL 1, Marchstr. 6, 10587 Berlin and in addition by e-mail in a single pdf-file to appoint@naturalsciences.tu-berlin.de.

Please send copies only. Original documents will not be returned.
