Technische Universität Berlin - Faculty II

Technische Universität Berlin, Faculty II - Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Institute of Solid State Physics, invites applications for the position of a

University Professor - salary grade W3

for the chair of "Experimental Physics, in particular Applied Physics".

Working field:

We are looking for an internationally outstanding researcher with a strong background in the field of experimental physics, especially applied physics. The research area should be complementary to the existing research activities and tie into the fields of solid-state physics, nanophotonics, and quantum optics. The focus should be on the development and study of opto-electronic materials and their application in photonic devices. The materials can include traditional semiconductor systems as well as new materials such as plasmonic nanostructures, van der Waals heterostructures, and 2D quantum materials. The development of devices can include, e.g., innovative laser concepts, heterogeneous integration, integrated nanophotonics, as well as components of ultra-fast data transmission and quantum communication. A willingness to intensify cooperation with the research areas of the Institute of Solid State Physics, Faculty II (Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and Faculty IV (Electrical Engineering) as well as non-university research institutions in Berlin is expected. Participation in current and future collaborative research projects is desirable.

Teaching duties consist of lectures, laboratory courses and seminars in experimental physics for engineering students at Bachelor and Master level, as well as lectures in solid-state physics and applied physics. The willingness to learn German is expected from Non-German speaking applicants. Participation in the other teaching responsibilities of the Institute of Solid State Physics and the various duties of academic self-government is also expected.

Requirements:

Candidates must fulfill the requirements for appointment at the professor level in compliance with § 100 BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act) [information sheet available by request], including a completed academic education, qualified achievements in research (doctorate and additional academic achievements) and pedagogical-didactic qualifications, demonstrated by teaching experience and visualized in a teaching portfolio (for further information see TUB Website, quick access 144242).
A prerequisite for this position is the habilitation or equivalent scientific achievements in an industrial research or development department as well as pedagogical eligibility.

How to apply:

Technische Universität Berlin is determined to increase the proportion of women in research and
teaching and therefore strongly encourages qualified female researchers to apply. Qualified individuals with disabilities will be favored. The TU Berlin values the diversity of its members and is committed to the goals of equal opportunities. In the context of the strategic internationalization process, TU Berlin assumes the recruited academic teaching staff's ability to conduct classes in English.
Technische Universität Berlin is a certified family-friendly higher education institution, and our Dual Career Service offers assistance to you and your family when relocating to Berlin.

Please send your written application until 19 July 2018 indicating the reference number and including the appropriate documentation to Technische Universität Berlin – Der Präsident –, Dekan der Fakultät II, Prof. Dr. Emmrich, Sekr. BEL 1, Marchstr. 6, 10587 Berlin and in addition by e-mail in a single pdf-file to appoint@naturalsciences.tu-berlin.de.
