Human Rights Watch is an inter­na­tio­nal human rights moni­to­ring and advo­cacy orga­niza­t­ion known for its in-depth inves­ti­ga­ti­ons, its incisive and timely reporting, its inno­va­tive and high-pro­file advo­cacy cam­pai­gns, and its suc­cess in chan­ging the human rights-rela­ted poli­cies and prac­tices of influ­en­tial govern­ments and inter­na­tio­nal insti­tu­ti­ons.

Deve­lop­ment & Out­reach Intern

Work­ing field:

The intern will learn and primar­ily focus on:
  • Event plan­ning for the Voices for Justice Din­ner in Spring 2018 and vari­ous out­reach and cul­tiv­a­tion events (i.e., film screen­ings and recep­tions)
  • Pre­par­ing vis­its of HRW research­ers and advoc­ates
  • Cre­at­ing donor pro­files and data­base man­age­ment
  • Con­duct­ing research on fund­ing pos­sib­il­it­ies in Ger­many
  • and Other tasks and pro­jects as they arise.

Require­ments:

App­li­cants must be enrol­led stu­dents for the dura­tion of the internship term. This posi­tion is open to stu­dents who are inte­rested in fund­rai­sing, out­reach, and spe­cial events wit­hin a human rights con­text. Expe­ri­ence with event plan­ning or fund­rai­sing is desi­ra­ble. App­li­cants should be well-orga­ni­zed, detail-ori­en­ted, self-moti­va­ted, and relia­ble with strong time manage­ment skills and a posi­tive atti­tude. Excel­lent oral and writ­ten com­mand of Ger­man and Eng­lish are essen­tial. Com­pu­ter skills (e.g., Micro­soft Office, inter­net app­li­ca­ti­ons, data­base) are requi­red.

What we of­fer:

Interns will gain know­ledge and skills in fund­rai­sing, data­base manage­ment, event plan­ning, and rese­arch. This internship is best sui­ted for indi­vi­du­als inte­rested in gai­ning expe­ri­ence in a large, well-orga­ni­zed, inter­na­tio­nal non-pro­fit orga­niza­t­ion. In order to pro­vide a valuable and well-roun­ded internship expe­ri­ence, interns will attend plan­ning and depart­ment mee­tings with staff and will have the oppor­tu­nity to take advan­tage of in-house trai­nings and brie­fings.
