The Chair of Electromagnetic Theory conducts research in the simulation of semiconductor devices, which are the basis for all electronic appliances from smartphones over photovoltaics and high-speed data transfer to power electronics for electromobility. We develop simulation programs for the detailed description of physical processes within these devices. Additionally, charge carrier transport in novel semiconductor device types is investigated and optimized. 

Research Assistant/Associate

Auf­ga­ben­be­sch­rei­bung:

You will work on the simu­la­tion of high-speed III-V hetero­junc­tion tran­sis­tors (HBTs) for very high fre­quency app­li­ca­ti­ons (near field RADAR, THz waves, high-speed com­mu­ni­ca­ti­ons etc.) fun­ded by the Ger­man Sci­ence Foun­da­tion (DFG). The elec­tron trans­port is mode­led on a micro­sco­pic level inclu­ding ther­mal effects (i.e. self-hea­ting). First, an exis­ting simu­la­tor for sili­con has to be exten­ded to the case of III-V mate­ri­als and then dif­fe­rent levels of appro­xi­ma­tion are to be inves­ti­ga­ted for ther­mal trans­port. An important aspect of this rese­arch pro­ject is the deve­lop­ment of nume­ri­cally sta­ble algo­rithms. The final simu­la­tion pro­gram will be used to under­stand trans­port in extre­mely sca­led devices and to explore the limits of the III-V tech­no­logy.

Er­war­te­te Qua­li­fi­ka­tio­nen:

You need a uni­ver­sity degree (Mas­ter or com­pa­ra­ble) in electri­cal engi­nee­ring or phy­sics with excel­lent results. You should be highly inte­rested in semi­con­duc­tor phy­sics, nume­rics and high-per­for­mance com­pu­ting. Since you will work in an inter­na­tio­nal team, good Eng­lish skills are requi­red.

Un­ser An­ge­bot:

The posi­tion is for 3 years and is to be fil­led as soon as pos­si­ble. This is a full-time posi­tion.

The suc­cess­ful can­di­date has the oppor­tu­nity to pur­sue a doc­to­ral degree.

The salary cor­re­sponds to level EG 13 TV-L.
