The Chair of Applied Microbiology at the RWTH Aachen University (Germany) is currently accepting applications for an open Postdoctoral position in Metabolic Engineering to support its research within the BMBF funded innovation alliance ZeroCarbon Footprint. The scientist will be involved in the sub-project Bioplastics, which aims for the development of microbial cell factories for the efficient conversion of alternative carbon sources into valuable products. 

Postdoctoral position in Metabolic Engineering

Work­ing field:

Res­pon­si­bi­li­ties and tasks
  • Meta­bo­lic engi­nee­ring of Han­sen­ula poly­mor­pha for the pro­duc­tion of car­boxy­lic acids
  • Adap­tive labo­ra­tory evo­lu­tion of wild-type or engi­nee­red strains
  • Cha­rac­te­riza­t­ion of pro­duc­tion per­for­mance of engi­nee­red strains in lab-scale fer­men­ta­ti­ons
  • Publi­ca­tion and pre­sen­ta­tion of rese­arch results

The post­doc­to­ral rese­ar­cher will work in close col­la­bo­ra­tion with sci­en­tists deve­lo­ping model-gui­ded meta­bo­lic engi­nee­ring stra­te­gies and the indus­trial part­ner on pro­cess opti­miza­t­ion.


App­li­cants must have a doc­to­rate/Ph.D. or equi­va­lent.
Can­di­da­tes should hold a PhD in Bio­tech­no­logy, Bio­logy or simi­lar field. Sci­en­tists with prior expe­ri­ence in gene­tic engi­nee­ring and quan­ti­ta­tive phy­sio­lo­gi­cal ana­ly­ses of H. poly­mor­pha are highly encou­ra­ged to apply.

What we of­fer:

The posi­tion is until 30.09.2019 and is to be fil­led as soon as pos­si­ble. This is a full-time posi­tion.

The salary cor­re­sponds to level EG 13 TV-L.
