The new Center for Synergy of Systems (SynoSys) develops transdisciplinary approaches and methods in the fields of network science, data science and citizen science in order to conduct integrative research into complex phenomena at the interfaces between biomedicine, social sciences and life sciences. SynoSys will contribute to the emergence of a scientific vision for healthy human development in which physical and mental health are collectively considered in an increasingly digital and networked social and physical environment. As a department of the Center for Interdisciplinary Digital Sciences (CIDS), SynoSys will be a node in the network of transdisciplinary research on digitalization and a crystallization point for innovation and collaboration.

Data Visualization Scientist (m/f/x)

The Center for Synergy of Systems (SynoSys) offers a project position as

Data Visualization Scientist (m/f/x)
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting at the earliest possible date. The position is limited until October 31, 2026. The period of employment is governed by § 2 (2) Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG).

Working field:

The position is tasked with and responsible for development of interactive, web-based scientific visualizations of research conducted by SynoSys researchers. Specifically, the tasks include:

  • scientific research and development activities in the field of network science, data science and citizen science to analyze complex phenomena at the interfaces of biomedicine, social and life sciences,
  • implementation/transfer and testing of the scientific design and development of data-driven visualizations with d3js and/or related technologies, design and development of web-based dashboards and interactive tools,
  • presenting research results at conferences and writing publications in renowned journals,
  • curating and creating web-based data reports and data-driven blogs.

Requirements:

  • scientific university degree in the field of visualization/communication design
  • interest in complex systems, complexity research, transdisciplinary research
  • knowledge of web-related programming, Javascript, d3js and interactive visualization frameworks, Python and data visualization tools
  • preferably experience with data-driven visualizations and data analysis
  • excellent visual design skills as well as strong communication and storytelling skills
  • experience with interactive, web-based data visualizations, with the demonstrated ability to lead and execute data visualization projects from start to finish
  • ability to work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment
