Leibniz-Zentrum für Agrarlandschaftsforschung e.V. - HR

The Sustainable Grassland Systems group is offering a PhD position within the DFG funded research group, Agroforestry for sustainable multifunctional agriculture (FORMULA) as part of the sub-project MapFun - Mapping Plant Functional Variation. The group is located at the research station Paulinenaue (30 minutes by regional train from Berlin-Spandau). Together with partners at University of Giessen, the project aims to study variation in plant functional traits at intra- and interspecific level with a focus on aboveground-belowground functional links from the root, over the leaf to hyperspectral signatures. The PhD student at ZALF will focus on root-leaf functional linkages using concepts of plant economics including mycorrhizal symbiosis, while the hyperspectral expertise will be situated with the closely collaborating PhD student at Giessen. The research will use a combination of greenhouse experimentation and field sampling in agroforestry systems in Brandenburg and Hessen.

Subject to final approval of funds, we are offering a 65% position for 4 years at our location in Paulinenaue as PhD student (f/m/d).
