Als außer­uni­ver­si­tä­res For­schungs­in­sti­tut ist es Mit­glied der Leib­niz-Gemein­schaft und gehört zu den füh­ren­den Ein­rich­tun­gen der Sozi­al­for­schung. Am WZB arbei­ten ca. 500 deut­sche und aus­län­di­sche Wis­sen­schaft­ler*innen ver­schie­de­ner Dis­zi­pli­nen und Mit­ar­bei­ter*innen in den wis­sen­schafts­un­ter­stüt­zen­den Berei­chen zusam­men. Unter­sucht wer­den Ent­wick­lun­gen, Pro­bleme und Inno­va­ti­ons­chan­cen moder­ner Gesell­schaf­ten. Die Ergeb­nisse der WZB-For­schung rich­ten sich an die wis­sen­schaft­li­che Com­mu­nity, an Expert*innen und Ent­schei­der*innen in Poli­tik, Wirt­schaft und Gesell­schaft, an die Medien und die inter­es­sierte Öffent­lich­keit.

Working field:

The WZB research group "Health and Social Inequality" (Head: Prof. Dr. Jan Paul Heisig) is looking for a

student assistant (f/m/x)

with a working time of 10 hours per week. Employment can begin on September 1 or October 1, 2023 (depending on the selected candidate’s preference), and will initially be limited until September 30, 2024 (extension possible).

The WZB Berlin Social Science Center is a publicly financed research institution that conducts leading-edge theory-based and problem-oriented social science research (http://www.wzb.eu/en). WZB researchers come from across the globe and work across social science disciplines including sociology, political science, economics, law, and psychology. A member of the Leibniz Association, WZB’s research is directed at the science community, policy makers, the media and the general public.

Tasks
  • Support in the preparation and analysis of complex quantitative data (e.g. panel and event data) using Stata or R
  • Research and evaluation of English-language research literature
  • Support in the preparation of presentations and publications (e.g. preparation of graphs and tables, proofreading of texts, preparation and formatting of bibliographies)
  • Organizational support for courses and scientific conferences or workshops

Requirements:

  • Enrollment in a bachelor's or master's degree program, preferably in sociology or another social science program
  • Demonstrable interest in topics related to the research group’s agenda (e.g., health and social inequality, life course sociology)
  • Solid background in quantitative methods of social research
  • Experience with Stata and/or R as well as MS Office
  • Very good knowledge of English
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Additional desirable qualifications
  • Experience with longitudinal and multilevel data
  • Familiarity with LaTeX
