Leib­niz-Zen­trum für Agrar­land­schafts­for­schung e.V. - HR

The mis­sion of the Leib­niz Centre for Agri­cul­tural Land­scape Research (ZALF) as a nation­ally and inter­na­tion­ally act­ive research insti­tute is to deliver solu­tions for an eco­lo­gic­ally, eco­nom­ic­ally and socially sus­tain­able agri­cul­ture – together with soci­ety. ZALF is a mem­ber of the Leib­niz Asso­ci­ation and is loc­ated in Müncheberg (approx. 35 minutes by regional train from Ber­lin-Lichten­berg). It also main­tains a research sta­tion with fur­ther loc­a­tions in Dede­low and Pau­lin­enaue.

FAIR­a­gro: DevOps Engin­eer (f/m/d)

We are offer­ing a full time pos­i­tion start­ing at 1st March 2023 for five years - sub­ject to a pos­it­ive fund­ing approval - at our loc­a­tion in Müncheberg as DevOps Engin­eer (f/m/d)

Working field:

FAIR­a­gro is a con­sor­tium in the National Research Data Infra­struc­ture (NFDI) in Ger­many. Aims and tasks of FAIR­a­gro com­prise the devel­op­ment of a net­worked research data man­age­ment for agrosys­tems research and the estab­lish­ment of an inter­op­er­able, scal­able, qual­ity-assured and user-friendly research data infra­struc­ture under con­sid­er­a­tion of the FAIR prin­ciples. FAIR­a­gro will make research data find­able (F), access­ible (A), inter­op­er­able (I), and reusable (R) by other research­ers.

  • estab­lish­ment of the FAIR­a­gro net­work of inter­op­er­able research data infra­struc­tures tak­ing into account the NFDI spe­cific­a­tions (e.g. NFDI-RDC)
  • con­cep­tual design and imple­ment­a­tion of a mid­dle­ware for net­work­ing dif­fer­ent research data infra­struc­tures
  • sup­port for net­work­ing of FAIR­a­gro part­ner infra­struc­tures
  • integ­ra­tion and con­nec­tion of the FAIR­a­gro net­work to the NFDI
  • devel­op­ment, imple­ment­a­tion and optim­iz­a­tion of robust, auto­mated build and deploy­ment pro­cesses
  • close cooper­a­tion (a) with col­leagues of the Leib­niz Insti­tute of Plant Genet­ics and Crop Plant Research (IPK) in Gatersleben to design and imple­ment the FAIR­a­gro mid­dle­ware for net­work­ing the research data infra­struc­tures and (b) with the Leib­niz Insti­tu­tion for Biod­iversity and Earth Sys­tem Research Naturkunde Görl­itz for the integ­ra­tion of the NFDI AAI into the FAIR­a­gro mid­dle­ware


  • uni­versity degree in com­puter sci­ence or com­par­able qual­i­fic­a­tion
  • exper­i­ence as a Linux Admin­is­trator, DevOps Engin­eer or Soft­ware Engin­eer or in a com­par­able pos­i­tion; build­ing and oper­at­ing dis­trib­uted sys­tems on Linux
  • exper­i­ence with orches­tra­tion tools (Ans­ible), con­tain­er­iz­a­tion (Kuber­netes and Docker), and agile soft­ware and inter­face devel­op­ment meth­od­o­lo­gies
  • know­ledge of cur­rent stand­ards in research data man­age­ment
  • very good applied know­ledge in soft­ware devel­op­ment, e.g. Django/Python, JavaS­cript, JQuery and SQL
  • ver­sat­ile interest in new tech­no­lo­gies and open­ness to learn new top­ics and pro­gram­ming lan­guages
  • high level of ini­ti­at­ive, excel­lent com­mu­nic­a­tion and team­work skills in an inter­dis­cip­lin­ary envir­on­ment
  • very good know­ledge of Ger­man (cf. C1 CEFR level) and Eng­lish, both writ­ten and spoken
