Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung - Division 8.4 “Acoustic and electromagnetic methods” in Berlin-Steglitz

The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Our work covers a broad array of topics in the focus areas of energy, infrastructure, environment, materials, and analytical sciences.

We are looking for talented people to join us.

Working field:

As part of a research project, you will develop methods for laser-based ultrasound excitation for applications in non-destructive materials testing as part of an interdisciplinary research team. You will also carry out measurements of the ultrasonic field with the 3D laser Doppler vibrometer.

  • Setting up, commissioning and testing measurement set-ups for the non-contact excitation of ultrasound in metallic components and plastics
  • Carrying out experimental investigations for non-destructive testing with laser ultrasound
  • Acquisition of measured values and data evaluation, development of data evaluation algorithms
  • Presentation of the measurement results

Requirements:

  • Students of the following or similar fields of study: Physics or engineering sciences, e. g. physical engineering, electrical engineering, measurement technology, optical systems, laser technology or comparable
  • Good programming skills, e. g. in Matlab or Python
  • Experience in optical measurement technology or laser technology is desirable
  • Basic knowledge of acoustics, wave propagation in solids or ultrasound physics is an advantage
  • Largely independent, careful way of working, creativity in solving open questions, high level of commitment
  • Language skills: German or English fluently spoken and written

BAM pursues the goal of professional equality between women and men. We therefore particularly welcome applications from women. In addition, BAM supports the integration of severely disabled persons and therefore expressly welcomes their applications. With regard to the fulfilment of the job advertisement requirements, the application documents are examined individually. Recognised severely disabled persons will be given preferential consideration if they are equally suitable.

The advertised position requires a low level of physical aptitude.
