Helm­holtz-Zen­trum Dres­den-Ros­sen­dorf e.V.

As a mem­ber of the Helm­holtz Asso­cia­tion of Ger­man Rese­arch Cen­ters, the HZDR employs about 1,400 people. The Cen­ter's focus is on inter­di­sci­pli­nary rese­arch in the areas energy, health and mat­ter.

The HZDR is com­mit­ted to offer out­stan­ding junior rese­ar­chers (f/m/d) the oppor­tu­nity to estab­lish their own HZDR Junior Rese­arch Groups. The HZDR sup­ports the can­di­date (f/m/d) with a yearly fun­ding in order to build an early sci­en­ti­fic career. The pro­gram runs for three years (fol­lo­wed by a mid­term eva­lua­tion), with the option of an exten­sion by two years or a ten­ure track posi­tion in case of pro­ven sci­en­ti­fic excel­lence. The fun­ding will be gran­ted for one app­li­cant per year.

HZDR Junior Rese­arch Group Lea­der (f/m/d)

Working field:

Tar­get group:

  • Out­stan­ding post­doc­to­ral rese­ar­chers (f/m/d), who recei­ved their PhD degree not lon­ger than six years before their app­li­ca­tion. Peri­ods of child­care can be con­si­de­red by up to two years per child.

  • The sci­en­ti­fic work has to fit to the over­all stra­tegy of the HZDR and the hos­ting insti­tute.

  • Can­di­da­tes (f/m/d) who have pro­ven their excel­lence by excel­lent publi­ca­ti­ons, third-party fun­ding acqui­si­ti­ons, inter­na­tio­nal coope­ra­tion and tech­no­logy trans­fer activi­ties can apply.


For our pre-selec­tion, please sub­mit the fol­lo­wing docu­ments:

  • Sci­en­ti­fic pre-pro­po­sal (two pages), if pos­si­ble, inclu­ding your poten­tial sci­en­ti­fic host sci­en­tist and the stra­te­gic con­tri­bu­tion to our centre
  • Moti­va­tion let­ter (1 page)
  • CV, inclu­ding the exact date of the PhD cer­ti­fi­cate
  • Sci­en­ti­fic publi­ca­tion list with impact fac­tors and cita­tion record

For the second round (if the can­di­date (f/m/d) is selec­ted), the fol­lo­wing addi­tio­nal docu­ments will be requi­red until the end of Novem­ber 2021: Sci­en­ti­fic work pro­gram (five pages), the plan­ned coope­ra­tion with a part­ner uni­ver­sity (tea­ching) and at least one sup­port let­ter. The app­li­ca­tion docu­ments for the second round have to be pre­pa­red and sub­mit­ted in accordance with the respec­tive host sci­en­tist(s) (f/m/d) and insti­tute direc­tor(s) (f/m/d).
