Master/Diploma Thesis: Spintronics - Development of CMOS-compatible Materials, Metrology and Devices

Based on recent discoveries in spintronics, spin-based implementations like e.g. Magnetic Random Access Memory (MRAM) or Racetrack Memory (RTM) are approaches to overcome fundamental scaling limits in semiconductor industry. Spin conversion is a key element in spin-based computing systems, like e.g. Spin Transfer Torque or Spin Orbit Torque. We plan to explore fundamental building blocks for such applications.
Within the scope of a Master/Diploma Thesis the following tasks should be performed:
Development and Processing of thin film materials for Spintronics Devices (e.g. MRAM, Racetrack)
Experimental work in cleanroom and lab with state-of-the-art industry tools
Systematic planning and realization of own experimental series
Summary of the results and discussion within an international team
Studies of electrical engineering, process engineering, microelectronics, physics, chemistry, material science or similar studies in the field of engineering or science
Basic knowledge in solid state physics/chemistry, electrical engineering, semiconductor physics, surface sciences, magnetism phenomena or related
High motivation to work independently on the experimental realization of your experiments in cleanroom and lab
Result-oriented spirit of work with the attitude of creative problem solving
Very good set of communication skills

The position is limited. The duration is flexible according to agreement and possible study guidelines.
The scientific work is planned to be carried out in the business area Center Nanoelectronic Technologies CNT at Fraunhofer IPMS in Dresden. The examination takes place via the connection to a German technical university and is based on the respective state university law. The working time consists of maximum 39 hours per week.
In case of identical qualifications preference will be given to severely disabled candidates.

We at the Fraunhofer IPMS develop electronic, mechanical and optical components and work on their integration into miniaturized modules and systems.
