The research group “Phyllosphere Microbiology” works at the interface between bacteria and plants. In particular, the colonization of leaf surfaces by bacteria is investigated. The interactions between different bacterial species and/or the plant host are of central interest. To investigate these interactions, we use molecular biology techniques, such as RNA expression analysis and genome sequencing, as well as heterologously expressed fluorescent proteins and high-resolution fluorescence microscopy. The results of this research are relevant for the biological protection of plants and for basic principles of microbial ecology. We are looking for a scientific assistant (PostDoc) who complements the research group with independent empirical research. At the same time, the position should serve to develop one's own research profile in phyllosphere microbiology. The successful candidate will be able to qualify for and work towards a habilitation.
Independent planning, implementation and evaluation of research work in the field of microbiology of the phyllosphere, bacteria-plants and bacterial interactions at the single-cell level.
Development of new research approaches and methods in the field.
Support activities in research and publication of research results - There is a teaching obligation according to the teaching obligation ordinance (courses for bachelor students are to be offered in German).
Independent planning and implementation of courses in microbiology and other courses for various courses in biology. Implementation of seminars and internships, as well as performance tests for students.
Supervision and guidance of students, interns, scholarship holders, doctoral candidates and (guest) scientists.
Acquisition of third-party funds - The activity serves the candidates own scientific qualification.
Completed university degree and doctorate in biology with a focus on phyllosphere microbiology.
Specialization in bacteria-plant interaction
Very good knowledge of fluorescence microscopic methods, image cytometry, and spatial statistics
Very good knowledge of the microbial ecology of plant surfaces - Knowledge of bacterial genomics and single cell microbiology
Experience in at least one of the areas of plant pathology and / or microbial ecology
Experience in university teaching
Experience in the development of or participation in third-party funded projects
Experience in the publication of research results in international journals
