The EU project GlycoSpec aims to investigate fundamental aspects of the reaction and fragmentation mechanisms of oligosaccharides. For this purpose, a novel instrument combining ion mobility mass spectrometry and gas-phase infrared spectroscopy will be developed in a first step. The basis for the development is a commercially available ion mobility mass spectrometer. Subsequently, the newly developed instrument is used to structurally investigate reactive cationic intermediates from sugar chemistry and fragments from glycan mass spectrometry.
Job description: Implementation of glycosylation reactions under reproducible conditions and quantitative analysis of the resulting products. Structural investigation of the relevant intermediates by ion mobility mass spectrometry and gas-phase IR spectroscopy. Comparison of experimental data with theoretical calculations. Development of models for the prediction of glycosylation reactions.
Completed doctorate in Organic Chemistry
Experience with the chemical synthesis of oligosaccharides
In-depth knowledge of the chemistry of protecting groups and neighboring group effects
Experience in mass spectrometry and related techniques
Experience with artificial intelligence and automated learning processes
