The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

“sleep in mouse models”

The posi­tion is star­ting as soon as pos­si­ble, limi­ted for two years with the pos­si­bi­lity of an exten­sion for an addi­tio­nal 2 years. The period of employ­ment is gover­ned by the Fixed Term Rese­arch Con­tracts Act (Wis­sen­schafts­zeit­ver­trags­ge­setz - WissZeitVG). The posi­tion aims at obtai­ning fur­ther aca­de­mic qua­li­fi­ca­tion.
The BIO­TEC is a renow­ned inter­di­sci­pli­nary and inter­na­tio­nal rese­arch insti­tute of the TU Dres­den that boasts a col­la­bo­ra­tive spi­rit and cut­ting-edge tech­no­logy plat­forms inclu­ding state-of-the-art ani­mal faci­li­ties. The city of Dres­den boasts nume­rous chan­ces for sci­en­ti­fic exchange and col­la­bo­ra­tion. You will join a team of enthu­si­astic sci­en­tists who pur­sue crea­tively their indi­vi­dual rese­arch agenda towards a mole­cu­lar under­stan­ding of sleep. Sleep is essen­tial, yet its regu­la­tion and mole­cu­lar func­tions are not known.

Work­ing field:

  • The suc­cess­ful can­di­date will study sleep con­trol and func­tions in mouse models and will set up a strong rese­arch agenda lea­ding to mole­cu­lar and mecha­nistic insight into mole­cu­lar sleep regu­la­tion and func­tions in mam­m­als.

Require­ments:

  • an excel­lent uni­ver­sity degree (Msc or equi­va­lent) in bio­logy, or a rela­ted life sci­ence disci­pline with pro­found know­ledge of mole­cu­lar bio­logy and phy­sio­logy and an out­stan­ding PhD with expe­ri­ence in mole­cu­lar bio­logy, phy­sio­logy, or neu­ro­sci­ence of the mouse.
  • Pre­vious expe­ri­ence in ani­mal rese­arch (such as obtai­ning aut­ho­ri­za­ti­ons and car­ry­ing out ani­mal expe­ri­ments) and for­mal qua­li­fi­ca­tion for con­duc­ting expe­ri­ments are requi­red.
  • very good inter­per­so­nal and com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills; in par­ti­cu­lar, the abi­lity to effec­tively work in col­la­bo­ra­tive rese­arch efforts.
  • Flu­ency in Eng­lish - writ­ten and oral, suf­fi­ci­ent know­ledge of Ger­man to com­mu­ni­cate with aut­ho­ri­ties etc..
  • Know­ledge of elec­tro­phy­sio­lo­gi­cal methods is desi­ra­ble.
