Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin - Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy

The Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin is a joint institution of the Free University Berlin and the Humboldt University Berlin. As one of Europe's largest university hospitals with significant history, it plays a leading role in research, teaching and healthcare. Charité also emerges as a modern employer with certifications in the medical, clinical and management sectors.

Working field:

Yildirim Lab has extensive experience in characterizing epigenetic and transcriptional dysregulation in CNS diseases such as Huntington’s Disease and stroke. More information about our scientific field of work can be found on our webpage at http://ferahyildirimlab.com/.

The Postdoc position we offer is part of a project in which we aim to investigate the role of epigenetic mechanisms, especially DNA methylation, and the gene expression programs that are involved in alcohol addiction. The project involves performing genome-wide DNA methylation assays such as reduced representation bisulfite sequencing (RRBS) and methylated DNA immunoprecipitation followed by sequencing (MeDIP-Seq). Utilizing these technologies, we have previously reported large changes in DNA methylation in models of Huntington’s disease (Ng, C.W., Yildirim F. et al., PNAS, 2013). In the current project, these techniques will be applied to the brain samples, which are readily available from a rat model of alcohol addiction (Hadar, R., et al., Behav Brain Res, 2017).

Requirements:

  • Completed Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience, Biology or related field of science
  • Experience in the field of neurobiology
  • Expertise in molecular biology laboratory techniques
  • Experience in epigenomics, transcriptomics and/or next generation sequencing techniques is desired
  • Experience in preparation of manuscripts for publication is desired
  • Experience in collaborations with bioinformaticians for data analyses is an asset

DIE CHARITÉ - UNIVERSITÄTSMEDIZIN BERLIN makes its personnel decisions on the basis of suitability, qualification and professional performance. At the same time, an increase in the proportion of women in management positions and, in the case of equivalent qualifications, this is taken into within the framework of the legal possibilities. We also expressly welcome applications from people with an immigrant background. Severely disabled applicants will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications. An extended certificate of good conduct must be submitted. Any travel expenses incurred cannot be reimbursed.
