The vice president for administration is a full-time member of the Executive Board and supports the president in the execution of his/her duties. The vice president for administration is in charge of the day-to-day administration and is bound by the directives of the president. The vice president for administration is further responsible for the budget and is head of the University administration covering the departments of student affairs, human resources and law, finance, building and services management, research, and international affairs.
Requirements:
The post holder must be qualified to hold judicial office or meet the requirements of the Civil Service Career Path Act (Laufbahngesetz) for second entry-level office in career group 2 of the General Administrative Service or the requirements stated in Section 24 (1) of the Civil Service Career Path Act and have acquired the aptitude and expertise required for the office through at least three years’ professional work in public service.
The post holder must have a good understanding of the structural organization of universities as well as science management at both national and international level and possess excellent knowledge and relevant experience of heading (university) strategic projects, including in an international context. The position requires experience in the area of quality management, particularly regarding topics of current importance such as digitalization of administrative services and sustainability. Excellent social competence, the ability to integrate and innovate, gender and diversity competence, the ability to lead and inspire staff, conflict management skills and a good knowledge of English are essential requirements for the position. The successful candidate is expected to possess an understanding of (German) higher education law, (German) budget law, (German) public law, staff and organizational development, as well as proven experience in change management.
We are looking for a team-oriented, communicative and dynamic personality for this responsible position as well as someone with many years’ experience of management in positions of leadership, ideally within science administration. The vice president for administration is expected to work in a trusting exchange with the Executive Board and other leadership personell to ensure the effectiveness of the University’s wide-ranging administrative work and develop efficient and innovative organizational structures.
The vice president for administration is selected upon the recommendation of the president by the Board of Trustees and appointed by the appropriate member of the Berlin Senate.
