University Professor of Reproduction and Udder Health in Ruminants

The successful applicant will cover research, teaching, and service in the clinical disciplines of reproduction and udder health in ruminants. This includes patient care at the Clinical Center for Farm Animals as well as ongoing reproductive management of ruminants on farms.
Along with the regular official duties of professors listed in Article 99 of the Berlin Higher Education Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the following activities:
The new professor will develop new research areas and continue to build on existing ones. They will integrate research into the structures and/or cooperate with the working groups at the Department’s Veterinary Center for Resistance Research as well as at the whole Department of Veterinary Medicine at Freie Universität Berlin. Moreover, the professor will cooperate with other institutions and working groups at Freie Universität Berlin as well as relevant research institutions in the Berlin/Brandenburg metropolitan region. They will also be expected to teach courses in ways that are sensitive to gender and diversity issues.
Appointment requirements are governed by Article 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz – BerlHG). Successful candidates should hold a university degree in veterinary medicine. They should further be qualified as a specialized veterinarian in one of the relevant areas of expertise of a veterinarians’ chamber and/or hold a diplomate of the European College for Animal Reproduction (ECAR), European College of Bovine Health Management (ECBHM), or American College of Theriogenologists (ACT).
In addition, candidates for the position will have a prestigious international research profile involving projects focused on the physiology and pathology of reproduction in ruminants, including udder health with consideration of food safety. Qualifications in teaching at the university level, including postgraduate training and continuing education, are a further prerequisite. Candidates with teaching experience in an international context in particular are encouraged to apply. The applicants should also be able to demonstrate success in acquiring and leading externally funded research projects.
