Tech­ni­sche Uni­ver­si­tät Dres­den - Faculty of Bio­logy, Insti­tute of Micro­bio­logy, Chair of Mole­cu­lar Bio­tech­no­logy

The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

Rese­arch Asso­ciate

The posi­tion is offe­red, sub­ject to resour­ces being avail­able, star­ting from Febru­ary 01, 2021. The posi­tion is limi­ted for 36 mon­ths and ent­ails 65% of the full­time wee­kly hours. The period of employ­ment is gover­ned by the Fixed Term Rese­arch Con­tracts Act (Wis­sen­schafts­zeit­ver­trags­ge­setz - WissZeitVG). The posi­tion offers the chance to obtain fur­ther aca­de­mic qua­li­fi­ca­tion (e.g. PhD).
The posi­tion is part of DFG fun­ded rese­arch pro­ject, aiming for the exploi­ta­tion of novel bio­ca­ta­lysts for the bio­syn­the­sis of non-cano­ni­cal deoxy­ri­bonu­cleo­ti­des.

Work­ing field:

cha­rac­te­ri­za­tion and engi­nee­ring of enzy­ma­tic bio­ca­ta­lysts, par­ti­cu­larly recom­bi­nant pro­duc­tion (in E. coli) and puri­fi­ca­tion of enzy­mes in lab scale; enzy­ma­tic cata­ly­sis in aque­ous sys­tems; ana­ly­sis of low-mole­cu­lar weight che­mi­cal com­pounds via e.g. pho­to­me­try, liquid chro­ma­to­gra­phy (HPLC), mass spec­tro­me­try; inde­pen­dent pro­ject sche­du­ling and orga­ni­za­tion; docu­men­ta­tion as well as writ­ten and ver­bal com­mu­ni­ca­tion.

Require­ments:

high ran­ked uni­ver­sity degree (M.Sc., Dipl.) in Bio­tech­no­logy, Bio­logy, Bio­che­mi­stry or com­pa­ra­ble cour­ses; dis­tinct rese­arch inte­rest and strong self-moti­va­tion; basic theo­re­ti­cal and prac­ti­cal exper­tise in micro­bial bio­tech­no­logy, bio­che­mi­stry and che­mi­cal ana­ly­tics; deeper exper­tise in mole­cu­lar bio­tech­no­logy espe­ci­ally enzyme tech­no­logy; flu­ent Eng­lish in spo­ken and writ­ten form; abi­lity to work crea­tive and inde­pendently; com­mit­ment to the pro­ject and a dis­po­si­tion for taking respon­si­bi­lity; com­mit­ment to the rules of good sci­en­ti­fic prac­tice. Expe­ri­ence in bio­ca­ta­ly­sis and/or enzyme engi­nee­ring is bene­fi­cial.
