Tech­ni­sche Uni­ver­si­tät Dres­den - Faculty of Phy­sics, Insti­tute of Nuclear and Par­ti­cle Phy­sics

The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

Rese­arch Asso­ciate

(Sub­ject to per­so­nal qua­li­fi­ca­tion employees are remu­ne­ra­ted accord­ing to salary group E 13 TV-L)
The posi­tion is star­ting on 01.12.2020. The posi­tion ent­ails 50 % of the full­time wee­kly hours and is initi­ally limi­ted until 30.06.2021. It shall be exten­ded to 3 years, sub­ject to resour­ces being avail­able. The period of employ­ment is gover­ned by the Fixed Term Rese­arch Con­tracts Act (Wis­sen­schafts-zeit­ver­trags­ge­setz WissZeitVG). The posi­tion offers the chance to obtain fur­ther aca­de­mic qua­li­fi­ca­tion.
The posi­tion will be in the ATLAS rese­arch group lead by Prof. Dr. Arno Stra­ess­ner. The envi­sa­ged rese­arch pro­gramme is part of the Ger­man-wide rese­arch net­work For­schungs­schwer­punkt ErUM-FSP ATLAS of the BMBF focu­sing on par­ti­cle phy­sics at hig­hest ener­gies with the ATLAS expe­ri­ment at the LHC. The ATLAS Dres­den group has a long-term expe­ri­ence in advan­ced data ana­ly­sis of pro­ton-pro­ton col­li­si­ons, par­ti­cle sear­ches, and detec­tor deve­lop­ment for the ATLAS liquid-argon calo­ri­me­ters.

Work­ing field:

  • ATLAS phy­sics ana­ly­sis and ope­ra­tio­nal tasks aiming at the search for Higgs bosons bey­ond the Stan­dard Model with tau lep­tons in the final state; Regu­lar visits to CERN, inclu­ding a lon­ger rese­arch period, will be pos­si­ble.

Require­ments:

  • very good uni­ver­sity degree (Mas­ter's or equi­va­lent) with a spe­cia­li­sa­tion in the area of par­ti­cle phy­sics
  • rese­arch expe­ri­ence rela­ted to LHC mea­su­rements or equi­va­lent exper­tise
  • high moti­va­tion to join an ana­ly­sis in the ATLAS expe­ri­ment.
