The PhD candidate will work on growing and investigating chalcogenide thin-films with application for memristive devices. This project is part of the SFB 917 Nanoswitches (www.sfb917.rwth-aachen.de). Hence, the candidate has the possibility to interact with many well-established scientists. The goal of the present project is to grow very thin chalcogenide films by controlling their structure and composition and subsequently investigate the resulting properties of the samples utilizing a variety of techniques. We have evidence that such films will show a plethora of fascinating properties, which are important for technological applications as well as a fundamental understanding of structure – property relationships.
The successful candidate will have a university degree (master or equivalent) in physics or material science. Previous strong knowledge in surface science and, if possible, extensive expertise in x-ray diffraction and one of deposition techniques, sputtering or molecular-beam epitaxy are highly desired. Excellent English skills are mandatory. Moreover, the candidate will be surrounded by state-of-the art equipment and very friendly, motivated, and skilled colleagues.

The position is for three years and is to be filled as soon as possible. This is a part-time position (75% of the standard weekly hours for full-time employees).
The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree.
The salary corresponds to level TV-L 13.
