Ten­ure Track Pro­fess­or­ship in Beha­vi­oral Eco­nom­ics, espe­cially Neur­oe­co­nom­ics

The suc­cess­ful applic­ant will cover the area named above in research and teach­ing.


Appoint­ment require­ments are gov­erned by Art­icle 100 of the Ber­lin Higher Edu­ca­tion Act (Ber­liner Hoch­schul­ge­setz – Ber­lHG).
The suc­cess­ful can­did­ate should be an expert in the field of beha­vi­oral eco­nom­ics, espe­cially neur­oe­co­nom­ics, and have an excel­lent research record. The applic­ant’s research should also con­nect with top­ics in beha­vi­oral tax­a­tion in the field of busi­ness admin­is­tra­tion. He or she should also have exper­i­ence in beha­vi­oral eco­nomic exper­i­ments and neur­oe­co­nomic meth­ods and be able to demon­strate exper­i­ence in acquir­ing and lead­ing extern­ally fun­ded research pro­jects. The can­did­ate should also provide evid­ence of their suc­cess as a uni­versity instructor and be able to teach in Ger­man and Eng­lish.
Along with the reg­u­lar offi­cial duties of pro­fess­ors lis­ted in Art­icle 99 of the Ber­lin Higher Edu­ca­tion Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the fol­low­ing activ­it­ies:

The appointee will act­ively sup­port teach­ing in the depart­ment, espe­cially in microe­co­nom­ics, for both Bach­elor and Mas­ter level courses, includ­ing courses in Eng­lish. Addi­tion­ally, we expect the new pro­fessor to pub­lish research in renowned inter­na­tional journ­als of eco­nom­ics and engage in the acquis­i­tion of third party fund­ing. The can­did­ate should also be will­ing to raise her or his lan­guage skills to a suf­fi­cient level within a reas­on­able amount of time.The new pro­fessor will also be expec­ted to address gender and diversity issues rel­ev­ant to the dis­cip­line in research and teach­ing.

What we of­fer:

Ini­tially, the pos­i­tion entails a fixed term appoint­ment (5 years) as a civil ser­vant (“Beamter/Beamtin auf Zeit”). Sub­ject to the appointee’s suc­cess­ful ten­ure eval­u­ation, she or he will be appoin­ted to a per­man­ent pro­fess­or­ship without any fur­ther applic­a­tion pro­ced­ure. Object­ives for this eval­u­ation will be nego­ti­ated dur­ing the appoint­ment pro­ced­ure for the ten­ure track pro­fess­or­ship (accord­ing to Art­icle 102 c Ber­lHG).
The per­form­ance goals to be determ­ined will basic­ally cover the fol­low­ing areas:
  • Research
  • Teach­ing
  • Pro­mot­ing early-career research­ers
  • Aca­demic com­mit­tee work
  • Lead­er­ship and man­age­ment
  • Lan­guage pro­fi­ciency

The con­di­tions of employ­ment accord­ing to civil ser­vice law must be ful­filled at the time of the ten­ure appoint­ment.

In addi­tion, any can­did­ates who com­pleted their doc­toral degree at Freie Uni­versität Ber­lin and/or are employed at Freie Uni­versität Ber­lin must com­ply with the reg­u­la­tions stip­u­lated by the Ber­lin Higher Edu­ca­tion Act, Art­icle102 c, para­graph 3 in con­junc­tion with para­graph 7.

Applic­a­tions should include a CV, cop­ies of all cer­ti­fic­ates of aca­demic qual­i­fic­a­tion in Ger­man or Eng­lish; let­ters of appoint­ment (please add trans­la­tions if applic­able), a list of pub­lic­a­tions, a list of courses pre­vi­ously taught and evid­ence of teach­ing com­pet­ence. Please include inform­a­tion on involve­ment in ongo­ing and future research endeavors, joint research pro­jects, extern­ally fun­ded pro­jects and, if neces­sary, lan­guage cer­ti­fic­ates. If applic­able, please give inform­a­tion on part­ner­ships with industry, inven­tions/pat­ents, and spin-offs.
