Within this set­ting, Fraunhofer IZM is cooper­at­ing with the start-up COV­ERT SCI­ENCE which is now seek­ing for qual­i­fied sup­port

Intern­ship in Flex­ible Power Elec­tron­ics/Light­ing Tex­tiles

Work­ing field:

Sought are stu­dent assist­ants to sup­port a research pro­ject for 6 months or longer.

Over­view of poten­tial tasks:
  • Sup­port of power engin­eer­ing activ­it­ies includ­ing cir­cuit design, sim­u­la­tion and lay­out
  • Sup­port of elec­tronic man­u­fac­tur­ing activ­it­ies includ­ing test­ing, meas­ure­ment, qual­ity con­trol
  • Sup­port of elec­tronic water­proof­ing and encap­su­la­tion activ­it­ies includ­ing lam­in­a­tion, coat­ing, and over-mold­ing
  • Sup­port of smart tex­tile activ­it­ies includ­ing fab­ric­a­tion of tex­tile struc­tures by ultra­sonic seam weld­ing, RF weld­ing, adhes­ive bond­ing, sew­ing, and embroid­er­ing
  • Sup­port of plastics pro­cessing activ­it­ies includ­ing 3d print­ing, injec­tion mold­ing, ther­mo­form­ing, extru­sion coat­ing, extru­sion lam­in­a­tion, vacuum lam­in­a­tion, extru­sion, com­pound­ing
  • Sup­port of optical engin­eer­ing activ­it­ies includ­ing cal­cu­la­tion of optical struc­tures, optical test­ing, meas­ure­ment
  • Sup­port of embed­ded firm­ware devel­op­ment in C/C++
  • Sup­port of FPGA/CPLD devel­op­ment
  • User inter­face test­ing
  • Doc­u­ment­a­tion and qual­ity con­trol of man­u­fac­tur­ing activ­it­ies and iden­ti­fic­a­tion of poten­tial improve­ments
  • Com­pil­a­tion of rel­ev­ant research into know­ledge data­base for future ref­er­ence
  • Organ­iz­a­tion and invent­ory of mater­i­als used in research activ­it­ies
  • Cre­ation and main­ten­ance of sup­plier data­bases

The research pro­ject is related to the real­iz­a­tion of power con­ver­sion mod­ules in ultra flat form factors for use in high power smart tex­tile applic­a­tions such as wide area LED light­ing. High volume man­u­fac­tur­ing pro­cesses will be developed and tested. The pro­ject also extends to design, con­struc­tion and test­ing of tex­tile-based light sources. Numer­ous innov­at­ive tech­no­lo­gies and pro­cesses will be explored and tested.

Require­ments:

  • You are work­ing on a B.S. degree, or a tech­nical degree in Power Elec­tron­ics, Com­puter Sci­ence, Mech­an­ical Engin­eer­ing, Mechat­ron­ics, Elec­tronic Engin­eer­ing, Optical Engin­eer­ing, Chem­istry, Pro­cess Engin­eer­ing, or a related area.
  • You are a cre­at­ive prob­lem solver and enjoy design think­ing
  • You speak flu­ent Eng­lish. Ger­man is a plus point.
  • You are cap­able in rel­ev­ant engin­eer­ing soft­ware, espe­cially Solid­works and/or Altium.
  • You are cap­able of work­ing inde­pend­ently and know how to set pri­or­it­ies
  • You can find use­ful tasks to do even when no spe­cific assign­ment is given
  • You have a strong interest in power engin­eer­ing, flex­ible elec­tron­ics, smart tex­tiles and/or light­ing and have done research inde­pend­ently in this area
  • You under­stand how to work with con­fid­en­tial inform­a­tion and the import­ance of doing so
  • You are a good com­mu­nic­ator and enjoy being part of a col­lab orative envir­on­ment
  • You are con­cerned about envir­on­mental issues and want to make a pos­it­ive impact in this area
