Within this setting, Fraunhofer IZM is cooperating with the start-up COVERT SCIENCE which is now seeking for qualified support
Internship in Flexible Power Electronics/Lighting Textiles
Sought are student assistants to support a research project for 6 months or longer.
Overview of potential tasks:
Support of power engineering activities including circuit design, simulation and layout
Support of electronic manufacturing activities including testing, measurement, quality control
Support of electronic waterproofing and encapsulation activities including lamination, coating, and over-molding
Support of smart textile activities including fabrication of textile structures by ultrasonic seam welding, RF welding, adhesive bonding, sewing, and embroidering
Support of plastics processing activities including 3d printing, injection molding, thermoforming, extrusion coating, extrusion lamination, vacuum lamination, extrusion, compounding
Support of optical engineering activities including calculation of optical structures, optical testing, measurement
Support of embedded firmware development in C/C++
Support of FPGA/CPLD development
User interface testing
Documentation and quality control of manufacturing activities and identification of potential improvements
Compilation of relevant research into knowledge database for future reference
Organization and inventory of materials used in research activities
Creation and maintenance of supplier databases
The research project is related to the realization of power conversion modules in ultra flat form factors for use in high power smart textile applications such as wide area LED lighting. High volume manufacturing processes will be developed and tested. The project also extends to design, construction and testing of textile-based light sources. Numerous innovative technologies and processes will be explored and tested.
You are working on a B.S. degree, or a technical degree in Power Electronics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electronic Engineering, Optical Engineering, Chemistry, Process Engineering, or a related area.
You are a creative problem solver and enjoy design thinking
You speak fluent English. German is a plus point.
You are capable in relevant engineering software, especially Solidworks and/or Altium.
You are capable of working independently and know how to set priorities
You can find useful tasks to do even when no specific assignment is given
You have a strong interest in power engineering, flexible electronics, smart textiles and/or lighting and have done research independently in this area
You understand how to work with confidential information and the importance of doing so
You are a good communicator and enjoy being part of a collab orative environment
You are concerned about environmental issues and want to make a positive impact in this area
