The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

Rese­arch Asso­ciate / PhD Stu­dent
in the field of muon detec­tor deve­lop­ment

(sub­ject to per­so­nal qua­li­fi­ca­tion employees are remu­ne­ra­ted accord­ing to salary group E 13 TV-L)
The posi­tion is star­ting 01.04.2020, sub­ject to resour­ces being avail­able. The posi­tion is limi­ted until 31.03.2023. The period of employ­ment is gover­ned by the Fixed Term Rese­arch Con­tracts Act (Wis­sen­schafts­zeit­ver­trags­ge­setz-WissZeitVG). The posi­tion offers the chance to obtain fur­ther aca­de­mic qua­li­fi­ca­tion (e.g. PhD). Balan­cing family and career is an important issue. The post is basi­cally sui­ta­ble for can­di­da­tes see­king part-time employ­ment.

Work­ing field:

Deve­lop­ment of large-area detec­tors for cos­mic muons. In more detail, the fol­lo­wing objec­tives should be pur­sued:
  • com­pa­ra­tive ana­ly­sis of dif­fe­rent con­cepts for drift cham­ber detec­tors
  • deve­lop­ment of new com­pact and robust detec­tor designs
  • simu­la­tion of radia­tion inter­ac­tion and charge trans­port in detec­tors
  • deve­lop­ment of dedi­ca­ted multi-chan­nel data pro­ces­sing elec­tro­nics
  • assem­bly and test of detec­tors and con­duc­tion of expe­ri­ments.

Require­ments:

very good uni­ver­sity degree (diploma, mas­ter degree) pre­fer­a­bly in phy­sics or elec­tro­nics engi­nee­ring; know­ledge of radia­tion detec­tor tech­no­logy as well as par­ti­cle trans­port simu­la­ti­ons is bene­fi­cial.
