Research Assist­ant - 0.75 work­ing time - salary grade E13 TV-L Ber­liner Hoch­schu­len - DFG fun­ded pro­ject to obtain a PhD

Work­ing field:

  • Plasma-astro­phys­ical numer­ical sim­u­la­tions to under­stand solar and pulsar radi­osig­nals
  • The work will be car­ried out in the frame­work of the GACR-DFG (Czech-Ger­man) research pro­ject: “Under­stand­ing mod­ern radioastro­nom­ical obser­va­tions via advanced plasma sim­u­la­tions” fun­ded by the Deutsche Forschungs­ge­meinsch­aft (DFG)
  • Kin­etic plasma sim­u­la­tions of mag­netic recon­nec­tion and elec­tron accel­er­a­tion caus­ing solar and pulsar the radio emis­sions
  • Close col­lab­or­a­tion with the Obser­vat­ory Ondre­jov (Czech Repub­lic) for large-scale MHD sim­u­la­tions and radio-obser­va­tions by the LOFAR and ALMA tele­scopes
  • PhD thesis pre­par­a­tion is pos­sible


  • Suc­cess­fully com­pleted uni­versity degree (Mas­ter, Dip­lom or equi­val­ent) in phys­ics, prefer­ably in astro­phys­ics and/or plasma phys­ics
  • Know­ledge of pro­gram­ming lan­guages (Phyton, C, For­tran ...)
  • Lan­guage pro­fi­ciency: good com­mand of Ger­man and/or Eng­lish (oral and writ­ten) required; will­ing­ness to learn either Eng­lish or Ger­man is expec­ted
  • Astro­phys­ical and plasma-phys­ical know­ledge
  • Enthu­si­asm about learn­ing and doing research in plasma astro­phys­ics by means of com­puter sim­u­la­tions using codes, pro­grams and dia­gnostic tools writ­ten in C and Python
  • Abil¬ity to work in a team, the Cen­ter for Astro­nomy and Astro­phys­ics, the SMART group of the TU Ber­lin, the inter­na­tional col­lab­or­a­tion
