Das Wis­sen­schafts­zen­trum Ber­lin für Sozi­al­for­schung (WZB) betreibt pro­blem­ori­en­tierte Grund­la­gen­for­schung. Unter­sucht wer­den Ent­wick­lun­gen, Pro­bleme und Inno­va­ti­ons­chan­cen moder­ner Gesell­schaf­ten. Die For­schung ist theo­rie­ge­lei­tet, pra­xis­be­zo­gen, oft lang­fris­tig ange­legt und meist inter­na­tio­nal ver­glei­chend.

Stu­dent Assi­stant (f/m/x)

Work­ing field:

The Ber­lin Social Sci­ence Cen­ter is sear­ching for a

stu­dent assi­stant (f/m/x) for pro­gramming

in the depart­ment „Eco­no­mics of Change“, led by Prof. Dr. Stef­fen Huck, star­ting from 01.10.2019 the ear­liest for one year (pro­lon­ga­tion is pos­si­ble) for 10 hours per week.
The depart­ment uses eco­no­mic expe­ri­ments for pro­blem-ori­en­ted basic rese­arch to bet­ter under­stand pro­ces­ses of change. In such expe­ri­ments sub­jects inter­act simul­ta­ne­ously on mul­ti­ple PCs or mobile devices. These expe­ri­ments are imple­men­ted using the soft­ware package oTree, which is based on Python, Django, html and java­script.

Tasks:
Sup­por­ting the depart­ment in the pro­gramming of expe­ri­ments for rese­arch pur­po­ses. This ent­ails the col­la­bo­ra­tion with rese­ar­chers of the depart­ment in desi­gning, imple­men­ta­tion, tes­ting and deploy­ment of expe­ri­ments using oTree.
In case you have no prior know­ledge of oTree, we expect that you use your working time pri­ma­rily to learn it (soft­ware basis as well as advan­ced packa­ges) for inter­ac­tions in real-time (oTree-red­wood).

Require­ments:

We are loo­king for app­li­cants who are in the late sta­ges of their Bache­lor’s or in the early sta­ges of their Mas­ter’s (any field wel­come) with an inte­rest in pro­gramming (real-time) expe­ri­ments for sci­en­ti­fic pur­po­ses, a gene­ral expe­ri­ence in pro­gramming and good pro­fi­ci­ency in Eng­lish.
Expe­ri­ence in the setup of ser­ver-cli­ent struc­tures (Win­dows as well as Linux Ser­ver), Python, html, java­script and webso­ckets are an advan­tage.
Fur­ther­more, know­ledge of and an inte­rest in eco­no­mics and eco­no­mic expe­ri­ments is an advan­tage.
