Bank for Inter­na­tio­nal Sett­le­ments

The Bank for Inter­na­tional Set­tle­ments is an inter­na­tional organ­isa­tion pro­mot­ing global mon­et­ary and fin­an­cial sta­bil­ity, and a bank for cent­ral banks. We are seek­ing highly organ­ised and effi­cient Admin­is­trat­ive Officers to work in our Mon­et­ary and Eco­nomic Depart­ment (MED).

Your con­tri­bu­tion to our mis­sion
The role requires you to pre­pare doc­u­ments and pub­lic­a­tions. You will also main­tain the busi­ness area’s data­bases of inform­a­tion and con­tact details. In addi­tion, you will man­age the busi­ness area’s web pages on both the BIS intranet and external restric­ted web applic­a­tions.
Depend­ing on your skill­set and interest, you will work in one of the fol­low­ing areas:

Stat­ist­ics & Research Sup­port
As part of a team you will provide admin­is­trat­ive sup­port to the unit’s work, espe­cially as regards the pro­duc­tion of the BIS inter­na­tional bank­ing and fin­an­cial stat­ist­ics, the sup­port of vari­ous BIS-hos­ted fin­an­cial sta­bil­ity groups (espe­cially the Inter­na­tional Data Hub and the Basel Com­mit­tee on Bank­ing Super­vi­sion) and the BIS Data Bank for cent­ral banks. You will also coordin­ate arrange­ments for internal and external meet­ings, work­shops and events.

MED Admin­is­tra­tion
You will work with other busi­ness units to ensure the timely pro­duc­tion and cor­rect format­ting of BIS doc­u­ments and pub­lic­a­tions. You will work as part of a team to provide admin­is­trat­ive sup­port to the Admin­is­tra­tion unit and MED as needed.

As part of your applic­a­tion, you should provide a motiv­a­tion let­ter explain­ing your pref­er­ence.


Your qual­i­fic­a­tions and exper­i­ence
We look for­ward to meet­ing can­did­ates with A-levels, a two-year sec­ret­arial dip­loma or equi­val­ent and a strong interest in MED activ­it­ies (eg eco­nomic ana­lysis, stat­ist­ics). A bach­elor’s degree is a plus. You will have excel­lent organ­isa­tional, time man­age­ment and com­puter (par­tic­u­larly Microsoft Office) skills. You should also have very good Eng­lish and pro­fi­ciency in Ger­man or another major world lan­guage.

The BIS’s head office is loca­ted in Basel, Switz­er­land, with rep­re­sen­ta­tive offices in Hong Kong SAR and Mexico City. All new staff mem­bers are recrui­ted on a fixed-term basis wit­hout expec­ta­tion eit­her of any con­tract rene­wal or con­ver­sion. The con­tract may howe­ver be exten­ded or con­ver­ted to an open-ended one at the end of the term, sub­ject to orga­ni­sa­tio­nal needs and indi­vi­dual per­for­mance.
