The pos­i­tion is part of a coo­per­a­tion bet­ween TU Ber­lin (Insti­tute for Art His­tory and His­tor­ical Urban Stud­ies) and the Ber­lin-Bran­den­bur­gis­che Aka­de­mie der Wis­sen­schaf­ten (CVMA Pots­dam, Centre for Rese­arch in Stai­ned Glass / Arbeitss­telle für Glas­malere­ifor­schung).

Work­ing field:

  • rese­arch on the digi­tal cata­loguing and rep­res­ent­a­tion of archi­tec­tur­ally embed­ded cul­tural assets, in coo­per­a­tion with the Insti­tute for Art His­tory and His­tor­ical Urban Stud­ies, the CVMA Rese­arch Centre in Pots­dam and the Depart­ments for Digi­tal Human­it­ies at the BBAW (TELOTA) and the Aca­demy for Sci­ences and Lit­er­at­ure in Mainz
  • require­ments ana­lysis and eval­u­ation of exist­ing meth­ods, sys­tems, visu­al­isa­tion com­pon­ents and meta­data stand­ards for the digi­tal cata­loguing of archi­tec­tur­ally embed­ded arte­facts in clo­sed envir­on­ments
  • devel­op­ment of an appro­pri­ate rese­arch infra­struc­ture which com­bines visu­al­isa­tion and sus­tain­able schol­arly data man­age­ment, using the image and meta­data repos­it­or­ies of the CVMA as a sam­ple (medi­eval stai­ned glass)
  • teach­ing as part of the cur­ricu­lum of the BA course “Cul­ture and Tech­no­logy” and the MA course for Art His­tory

Require­ments:

  • suc­cess­ful com­ple­tion of an aca­demic degree (Dip­lom, Mas­ter or equi­val­ent), pre­fer­ably art his­tory or rela­ted dis­cip­lines with exper­i­ence in pro­gram­ming and/or web devel­op­ment
  • open to inter­dis­cip­lin­ary teach­ing and rese­arch pro­jects in the human­it­ies; able to work in a team
  • pro­gram­ming skills (e.g. Java, Python, PHP)
  • web devel­op­ment exper­i­ence (HTML, CSS, JavaS­cript)
  • flu­ent in Eng­lish

Desir­able
  • exper­i­ence in work­ing with the IIIF frame­work
  • exper­i­ence in seman­tic data ana­lysis and onto­logy with CIDOC CRM
  • work­ing know­ledge of tools for image admin­is­tra­tion and ana­lysis (e.g. exif­tool, digi­lib)
  • work­ing know­ledge about meta­data stand­ards in the admin­is­tra­tion of image lib­rar­ies (e.g. XMP, METS, EAD) as well as aca­demic norm­at­ive data repos­it­or­ies (e.g. GND, Icon­class)
  • exper­i­ence with 3D mod­el­ling and/or pro­gram­ming with 3D tools in a web con­text (e.g. WebGL)
