Pos­i­tion in the con­text of the SFB 1114 "Scal­ing Cas­cades in Com­plex Sys­tems"

Work­ing field:

The goal of this pro­ject is the devel­op­ment and the­or­et­ical study of quant­it­at­ive char­ac­ter­iz­a­tions of self-sim­ilar and inter­mit­tent tur­bu­lence struc­tures based on advanced math­em­at­ical data ana­lysis such as shear­let ana­lysis and machine learn­ing tech­niques. The numer­ical side will be based on Dir­ect Numer­ical Sim­u­la­tion (DNS) data of tur­bu­lent flows as well as obser­va­tional data from atmo­spheric tur­bu­lence. The pro­ject relies on the fol­low­ing math­em­at­ical con­cepts: deep neural net­works, Four­ier ana­lysis, machine learn­ing, multiscale ana­lysis, sparse approx­im­a­tion, tur­bu­lent flow, wave­let and shear­let trans­form. Suc­cess­ful can­did­ates are expec­ted to pur­sue math­em­at­ical and inter­dis­cip­lin­ary research on the inter­na­tional level, to pub­lish the res­ults in inter­na­tional sci­entific journ­als and to present the res­ults on national and inter­na­tional con­fer­ences and work­shops.


Suc­cess­fully com­pleted uni­versity degree (Mas­ter, Dip­lom or equi­val­ent) in Math­em­at­ics or a related area.
Solid back­ground in applied har­monic ana­lysis, func­tional ana­lysis, machine learn­ing, and/or math­em­at­ical data sci­ence, interest in col­lab­or­a­tion with applied sci­ences, Eng­lish pro­fi­ciency in spoken and writ­ten.
