Junior Professorship - salary grade W1
with W2 tenure-track option in the field of "Chemical Catalysis".
With this position, TU Berlin especially addresses and aims to promote young scientists. For that reason, this position will be a temporary W1 junior professorship with an evaluation after 3 years. In case of a second successful tenure-track evaluation after 6 years, this position will lead to a permanent W2 professorship.
The position requires research and teaching in the area of chemical engineering at the Institute of Chemistry. Teaching will be required in the study programs of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and in the service teaching of chemistry for other programs. The research focus of the successful candidate should address current questions in the field of (electro)chemical engineering. Candidates with experimental (spectroscopic) or theoretical contributions to understanding catalytic processes on hard solid surfaces will be given preference. The area of research expertise should allow co-operations with the research groups of the Cluster of Excellence “Unicat”. In case of TU Berlin’s successful application regarding the Cluster of Excellence “Unifying Systems in Catalysis (UniSysCat)” contribution to this project is expected.
Candidates must fulfill the requirements for appointment at the junior professor level in compliance with § 102a BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act). These include a completed degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics or a comparable subject, a particular qualification for academic work usually attested by the excellent quality of a doctorate, and pedagogical aptitude, demonstrated by teaching experience and visualized in a teaching portfolio (for further information see TUB Website, quick access 144242).
We are looking for candidates with an internationally visible profile in the area of catalytic activation of small molecules on hard solid surfaces, who will represent this area in research and teaching. Competence either in theoretical modeling of catalytic reactivity at the quantum-chemical, stochastic and/or micro kinetic level or in experimental in-situ spectroscopic characterization of catalysts, catalytic centers or reactive intermediates including the activation driven by light or electric fields constitutes a central qualification. Willingness and ability for interdisciplinary research, e.g. between theory and experiment, as well as trend-setting research results published in internationally visible peer-reviewed journals are expected.
Applicants must show teaching experiences at university level and be willing to teach in German and English. Additional experience in advising and supervising Bachelor, Master and doctoral students is expected. Furthermore, experience in academic administration is desirable.
