Uni­ver­sity Pro­fes­sor - salary grade W3

for the chair of "Exper­i­mental Phys­ics, in par­tic­u­lar Applied Phys­ics".

Work­ing field:

We are look­ing for an inter­na­tion­ally out­stand­ing researcher with a strong back­ground in the field of exper­i­mental phys­ics, espe­cially applied phys­ics. The research area should be com­ple­ment­ary to the exist­ing research activ­it­ies and tie into the fields of solid-state phys­ics, nan­o­photon­ics, and quantum optics. The focus should be on the devel­op­ment and study of opto-elec­tronic mater­i­als and their applic­a­tion in photonic devices. The mater­i­als can include tra­di­tional semi­con­ductor sys­tems as well as new mater­i­als such as plas­monic nano­struc­tures, van der Waals het­ero­struc­tures, and 2D quantum mater­i­als. The devel­op­ment of devices can include, e.g., innov­at­ive laser con­cepts, het­ero­gen­eous integ­ra­tion, integ­rated nan­o­photon­ics, as well as com­pon­ents of ultra-fast data trans­mis­sion and quantum com­mu­nic­a­tion. A will­ing­ness to intensify cooper­a­tion with the research areas of the Insti­tute of Solid State Phys­ics, Fac­ulty II (Math­em­at­ics and Nat­ural Sci­ences) and Fac­ulty IV (Elec­trical Engin­eer­ing) as well as non-uni­versity research insti­tu­tions in Ber­lin is expec­ted. Par­ti­cip­a­tion in cur­rent and future col­lab­or­at­ive research pro­jects is desir­able.

Teach­ing duties con­sist of lec­tures, labor­at­ory courses and sem­inars in exper­i­mental phys­ics for engin­eer­ing stu­dents at Bach­elor and Mas­ter level, as well as lec­tures in solid-state phys­ics and applied phys­ics. The will­ing­ness to learn Ger­man is expec­ted from Non-Ger­man speak­ing applic­ants. Par­ti­cip­a­tion in the other teach­ing respons­ib­il­it­ies of the Insti­tute of Solid State Phys­ics and the vari­ous duties of aca­demic self-gov­ern­ment is also expec­ted.


Can­did­ates must ful­fill the require­ments for appoint­ment at the pro­fessor level in com­pli­ance with § 100 Ber­lHG (Ber­lin Higher Edu­ca­tion Act) [inform­a­tion sheet avail­able by request], includ­ing a com­pleted aca­demic edu­ca­tion, qual­i­fied achieve­ments in research (doc­tor­ate and addi­tional aca­demic achieve­ments) and ped­ago­gical-didactic qual­i­fic­a­tions, demon­strated by teach­ing exper­i­ence and visu­al­ized in a teach­ing port­fo­lio (for fur­ther inform­a­tion see TUB Web­site, quick access 144242).
A pre­requis­ite for this pos­i­tion is the habil­it­a­tion or equi­val­ent sci­entific achieve­ments in an indus­trial research or devel­op­ment depart­ment as well as ped­ago­gical eli­gib­il­ity.
