Technische Universität Berlin - Faculty II - Center of Astronomy and Astrophysics

Research Assistant (PostDoc) - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen

part-time employment may be possible

The group of Prof. Dr. Rauer conducts research in the field of planetary physics at the Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics. The focus is on the detection of extrasolar planets and the numerical modeling of their atmospheres. Prof. Rauer is PI of the ESA PLATO Mission and co-PI of the ground-based NGTS Survey (Next Generation Transit Survey). This position is integrated into the NGTS project, an international collaboration with the Universities of Belfast, Cambridge, Leicester, Warwick (UK), the Observatoire de Geneve (CH), and the University of Antofagasta (Chile). The goal of this project is it to investigate populations of exoplanets on close-in orbits using NGTS data as well as data from other transit surveys.

Working field:

This position is part of the DFG's 'Exploring the Diversity of Extrasolar Planets' program (SPP 1992). The aim of the SPP in 1992 is to bring together the various aspects of the theory and observation of exoplanet research.

Requirements:

  • successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in physics, astrophysics, astrophysics or related disciplines
  • PhD in astrophysics or related (at least submitted)
  • solid programming experience in a high-level language (Python, C, or similar)
  • basic knowledge of astrophysics, and transiting exoplanets
  • extensive experience in analysis of photometric data of transit light curves
  • experience in working within international collaborations
  • experience in astronomical observations
  • good knowledge of the English language
