The Chair of Electromagnetic Theory conducts research in the simulation of semiconductor devices, which are the basis for all electronic appliances from smartphones over photovoltaics and high-speed data transfer to power electronics for electromobility. We develop simulation programs for the detailed description of physical processes within these devices. Additionally, charge carrier transport in novel semiconductor device types is investigated and optimized.
You will work on the reliability analysis of power semiconductor devices, that are used for example in power switches for automotive applications. These reliability issues are not only relevant for the industrial deployment of such devices, but also interesting from a scientific perspective, because the mechanisms of the degradation of these devices are not entirely understood on a microscopic level. A simulation framework, developed at the institute, models the so-called hot-carrier degradation of such power devices based on the microscopic description of the transport of electrons and holes by the Boltzmann-transport equation. You will use and extend this simulation framework, whereby the improvement of suitable physical models, the development of stable simulation algorithms and their highly efficient numerical implementation for high-performance computer clusters are of special interest.
The project will be performed in close collaboration with our industry partners.
A university degree (Master or comparable) in electrical engineering or physics with excellent results is mandatory. Experience in semiconductor physics, numerics and high-performance computing is appreciated. Since you will work in an international team, good English skills, written and spoken, are required.

The position is 3 years and is to be filled as soon as possible. This is a full-time position.
The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
