Big Data offers completely new possibilities for data processing and data analysis. Massive amounts of data can be analyzed with low latency by advanced machine learning methods and thus enable the near real-time actionability on new insights and predictions about complex relationships are created. However, these possibilities pose immense ethical challenges to data analysis with respect to systems, algorithms and data processing. Thus, fairness, diversity and, transparency, neutrality and privacy have to become key features of novel data management systems.

Working field:

The goal of this research project is to research and develop the foundations and prototypes for
responsible data management with respect to ensuring the aforementioned key features by means of testing and verification of algorithms as well as traceability and reproducibility of open source and open data. This position includes the obligation to teach.

Requirements:

Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in computer science; PhD (summa cum laude) with focus on databases and data management; deep knowledge in implementation of DBMS, and in data analytics as well as mathematics (statistics and logic) and compiler construction; fluent German and English.
desired: experiences in open-source projects, in industry, project management, and a long record in scientific publications, teaching, and public presentations

How to apply:
