Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin - Berlin-Brandenburg Center for Regenerative Therapies
Working field:
The uniform seeding of the cells in a scaffold does not necessarily reflect native tissue conditions. In order to provide proper functioning of the engineered tissue, spatially cell/ECM patterned constructs are often required. In the offered here study we are aiming to develop a bio-acoustic levitational assembly (BAL) technology for a patterned cell-seeding in 3D scaffolds, employing ultrasound standing waves, which has been previously described by our collaborators from Lyon. Additionally, the BAL technique will be combined with our Focused Low-Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound (FLIPUS) in-vitro set-up for spatial- and time-controlled release of growth factors enhancing tissue regeneration process. The successful patterning of the 3D scaffold will be further visualized by high-frequency ultrasound and multiphoton confocal microscopy. Biochemical assays are to be performed to evaluate cellular activities and efficacy of the released growth factor.
Requirements:
The project’s agenda will include:
Some knowledge in biochemistry and tissue cell culture is favorable, but not required.
What we offer:
We are a multinational team of interdisciplinary scientists, working on novel musculoskeletal tissue imaging and regeneration approaches. For this challenging study, we would like to have a Master Student who has strong engineering and/or physics background and is excited to work on clinically significant projects.
