RFBerlin conducts independent research into significant challenges to the economy, society and the welfare state in a global world. We focus on applied and data driven research, and produces work that is impartial, based on objective scientific principles and adheres to the highest standards of academic excellence.

The Institute is funded by the ROCKWOOL Foundation. The ROCKWOOL Foundation is a self-funding and impartial charitable foundation established in 1981. From the outset, the Foundation's stated aim has been to support independent and credible research for the benefit of the general public.

RFBerlin is closely linked to a broad international knowledge network and works closely with its partner in Copenhagen. The goal of the research conducted at RFBerlin is to inform and raise the level of public debate, and to provide the best possible basis for political decision making.

Research Assistant (Public Policy Research)

Project led by Guido Friebels about infrastructure in Germany and extremist voting behaviour

Working field:

The ROCKWOOL Foundation Berlin – Institute for the Economy and the Future of Work (RFBerlin), a research institute focused on data-driven research, is seeking a research assistant for tasks related to Guido Friebels public policy research agenda, including a project about infrastructure in Germany and extremist voting behaviour.

As a student assistant, you will be responsible for data collection and preparation tasks:

  • Assist in collecting data on a number of topics in Germany, among others on co-determination in firms and the quality of infrastructure in particular in rural Germany such as the train networks, the healthcare industry, and broadband internet.
  • Prepare, and analyze data using R, Python, or Stata.
  • Assist with project management, including scheduling meetings, tracking deadlines, and communicating with team members.
  • Attend team meetings and document the data collection process to allow replicability of the research.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program in statistics, economics, informatics, or a related discipline.
  • Good coding skills in R, Python, or Stata.
  • Interest in research and data analysis.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (German optional).
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.

This is a 20 hours per week position that offers flexible hours, allowing you to balance work and your studies. We are excited to welcome a new team member to our office in Berlin and would like to offer an immediate start for the position, based on individual agreement.
